Jeanette MacDonald was an American singer and actress. She was a major star in the 1930s and 1940s. Her roles included the films The Love Parade, The Vagabond King, Let’s Go Native, Monte Carlo (1930), The Lottery Bride, Oh, For a Man!; Don’t Bet on Women, Annabelle’s Affairs, Paramount on Parade, One Hour with You, Love Me Tonight, The Cat and the Fiddle, The Merry Widow (1934), Naughty Marietta, Rose Marie, San Francisco (1936), Maytime, The Firefly (1937), The Girl of the Golden West, Sweethearts (1938), Broadway Serenade, The Miracle of Sound, New Moon, Bitter Sweet (1940), Smilin’ Through, I Married an Angel, Cairo (1942), Follow the Boys, Three Daring Daughters, and The Sun Comes Up. She often appeared with Maurice Chevalier and Nelson Eddy.

Jeanette was the daughter of Anna May/Mae (Wright) and Daniel Allen McDonald/MacDonald, who was a factory foreman and salesman for a contracting company. Her sister was actress Blossom Rock (born Edith Marie Blossom McDonald). Jeanette was married to actor Gene Raymond, until her death.

Jeanette’s paternal grandfather was named Charles John McDonald. Charles was born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, and was an actor and opera singer.
