Jean Seberg was an American actress. She lived about half of her life in France. Her roles included the films Saint Joan (1957), Bonjour Tristesse, The Mouse That Roared, Breathless (1960), Let No Man Write My Epitaph, Time Out for Love, Love Play, Five Day Lover, Congo vivo, In the French Style, The World’s Most Beautiful Swindlers, Backfire, Lilith (1963), Diamonds Are Brittle, Moment to Moment, A Fine Madness, Line of Demarcation, The Looters, The Road to Corinth, Birds in Peru, Pendulum (1969), Paint Your Wagon, Airport, Dead of Summer (1970), Macho Callahan, Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!, This Kind of Love, Gang War in Naples, The Assassination (1972), The Corruption of Chris Miller, Les hautes solitudes, White Horses of Summer, The Big Delirium, and The White Duck; and the made-for-tv movie Mousey.

Jean was the daughter of Dorothy Arline (Benson), a substitute teacher, and Edward Waldemar Seberg, a pharmacist. She was raised Lutheran. Jean was married to film director Dennis Berry, until her death. She had a son with her former husband, Lithuanian-born French aviator, resistant, novelist, and diplomat Romain Gary; and a daughter with student revolutionary Carlos Ornelas Navarra.

Jean’s paternal grandfather was Gustaf Edward “Ed” Seberg Carlson (the son of Carl/Charles Magnus Andersson/Seberg and Christina Lovisa Isaksdotter/Isaacson). Gustaf was born in Skirö, Småland, Sweden.

Jean’s paternal grandmother was Hilma Justina Rylander (the daughter of Jan Jansson “John” Rylander and Emma Lovisa Johansdotter/Jonasdotter). Hilma was born in Hycklinge, Östergötland, Sweden.

Jean’s maternal grandfather was Ernest Jonathan Benson (the son of Thomas Benson and Delia Rosamond Bohnsack). Ernest was born in Iowa. Thomas was born in Steeple Barton, Oxfordshire, England, the son of James E. Benson and Catherine Owen. Delia was born in Dankelsheim, Bad Gandersheim, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Jean’s maternal grandmother was Frances Ann/H. “Fannie”/G.G. Hart (the daughter of George Washington Hart and Miranda/Maranda Jane Williams). Frances was born in Polk County, Iowa. George was born in Indiana, the son of William Hart and Eliza Jane Cary. Jean’s great-grandmother Maranda was born in Connersville, Fayette County, Indiana, the daughter of John Williams and Mary Ann Reynolds.
