Janine Turner is an American actress, entrepreneur and author. Her notable roles include Maggie O’Connell in the television series Northern Exposure, Jessie Deighan in the feature film Cliffhanger, and as Katie McCoy in Friday Night Lights. She lives with her sole child on a cattle ranch in Dallas, Texas.

Janine’s patrilineal lineage can be traced back to Thomas Gauntt II (c. 1571) from Silkstone, Yorkshire.

Janine’s paternal grandfather was Turner Maurice Gauntt Sr (son of William Paul Gauntt and Little Ethel Turner). Turner Sr. was born in Athens, Henderson, Texas. Janine’s great-grandfather William was born in Athens, Henderson, Texas, (the son of James Bazel Gauntt and Martha Ann Victoria Neill), and had deep roots in British Colonial America. Janine’s great-grandmother Little Ethel was born in Hopkins, Texas, (the daughter of Patrick Henry Turner and Ellen Ladonia Boles), and was also of British Colonial stock. Through Little Ethel, Janine has several ancestors, perpetrators and victims alike, that experienced the infamous Salem Witch Trials.

Janine’s paternal grandmother was Marguerite Moore McKinzie (daughter of Harvey Jewel McKinzie and Essie Elizabeth Beasley). Marguerite was born in Midlothian, Ellis, Texas. Janine’s great-grandfather Harvey was born in South Haven Township, Sumner, Kansas. Janine’s great-grandmother Essie was born in Roane, Navarro, Texas.

Janine’s maternal grandfather was Stanley Lovelace Agee (son of Reverend Harvey Keelin Agee and Neila Bell Lovelace). Stanley was born in Gober, Fannin, Texas. Janine’s great-grandfather Rev. Harvey was born Stallio, Hopkins County, Texas, as was Janine’s great-grandmother Neila. Rev. Harvey’s great-great-great-grandfather was Huguenot Mathieu-Isaac Agee (c.1670), a native of Nantes, who left France for Holland in 1688, joined the forces of William of Orange during the latter’s seizure of the throne of England from the Catholic James II, and was subsequently granted passage and land in Manakin, Virginia, an 18th century Huguenot settlement. 

Janine’s maternal grandmother was Minnie Loraine Burgess (daughter of Richard Hayes Burgess and Emily Pearl Rogers). Minnie was born in Bell, Texas. Janine’s great-grandfather Richard was born in Jackson, Alabama, whereas Janine’s great-grandmother Emily was born in Milam, Texas. Emily’s great-great-grandfather, Isacc Brimberry (c.1775), was an ethnic Swede, heralding from the New Sweden colony in what is now Delaware. Furthermore, Emily’s great-great-great-great-grandmother, Vannie Besty Daniel (c. 1715), is said by some to have been Cherokee. This is presently unsubstantiated.
