Jake Cannavale is an American actor and musician. His roles include the shows Nurse Jackie, The Offer, American Sports Story, and Scarpetta; and the films Romance & Cigarettes, Eat Brains Love, Inside Man (2023), and F*ck Valentine’s Day. He has also been billed as Jacob Lumet-Cannavale.

He is the son of actress and screenwriter Jenny Lumet and actor Bobby Cannavale, the grandson of director Sidney Lumet, and the great-grandson of singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist Lena Horne.

Jake’s paternal grandfather was named Salvatore “Sal” Cannavale (the son of parents surnamed Cafiero). Salvatore is of Italian descent. Salvatore’s paternal grandparents were Carlo Cannavale, who was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Naples, Campania; and Carmela Di Maio.

Jake’s paternal grandmother was named Isabel Salvi. Isabel was born in Cuba, and came to the U.S. in 1960.

Jake’s maternal grandfather was Sidney Lumet (Sidney Arthur Lumet, the son of Baruch Lumet and Eugenia Gitl/Gitla Wermus). Sidney was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Polish Jewish parents. Baruch was the son of Abraham Lumet and Sarah Erder. Eugenia was born in Warsaw, the daughter of Abraham Izchak Wermus and Shoshana Dawid/Szpilman.

Jake’s maternal grandmother was journalist Gail Lumet Buckley (the daughter of Louis Jordan Jones and Lena Horne). Gail was born in Pennsylvania, and was of African-American, and some English, descent. Louis was born in Illinois, the son of William Augustus Jones and Nannie Cannon. Jake’s great-grandmother Lena was born Lena Mary Calhoun Horne in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, the daughter of Edwin Fletcher “Teddy” Horne, Jr., who was a hotel and restaurant owner; and of Edna Louise Scottron. Edna’s grandfather was Samuel Raymond Scottron/Scrotton, a noted inventor, including of the curtain rod.

Jake’s great-grandmother Lena was sometimes stated to have had Native American roots. It is not clear if this Native American ancestry has been verified/documented.

    An interesting four-quarters mix! As he’s aged he definitely favors his father. I don’t see much of Lena Horne in him.
