His parents, Duanka Evdokia “Duna”/Dena Edith (Kolionechinko/Kolesnikova/Kolesnichenko/Kalisnachanco/Kolenchinco/Kolenchinko or Policenko) and Gregori S./C. “George” Letz (born Hrehori Savelovich Letz), were Ukrainian. His father was born in Nikolaivka or Nikolievka, Crimea.

George had two children with his former wife, singer, actress, and television personality Dinah Shore.
