Fred MacMurray was an American actor. His roles included the films Double Indemnity, The Shaggy Dog (1959), The Absent-Minded Professor, Follow Me, Boys!; and The Happiest Millionaire, and the show My Three Sons.

Fred was the son of Maleta Annette (Martin) and Frederick Talmadge MacMurray, a concert violinist. His father was born in Oconto, Oconto County, Wisconsin, to Scottish-born parents. His mother was born in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin, of German ancestry. His paternal aunt was vaudeville performer and actress Fay Holderness (born Fay MacMurray). He was raised in Madison, WI, where his father taught music, and Beaver Dam; and also attended school in Quincy, Illinois.

Fred was married to Lillian Lamont, until her death; and then to film actress, singer, and dancer June Haver, until his death. He had two children, who were adopted, with Lillian; and two children, who were adopted, with June.

Fred’s paternal grandfather was The Rev. Thomas James MacMurray (the son of Thomas MacMurray and Elizabeth). Fred’s grandfather The Rev. Thomas was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, to a Wesleyan Methodist family. Elizabeth was born in Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland.

Fred’s paternal grandmother was named Mary E. Barnes.

Fred’s maternal grandfather was named Jacob Martin, Jr. (the son of Jacob Martin and Louisa Graessle). Fred’s grandfather Jacob was born in Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin. Fred’s great-grandfather Jacob was born in Pferdsfeld, Landkreis Bad Kreuznach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, the son of Johann Franz Martin and Mary/Maria Elizabeth/Elisabetha Fuchs. Fred’s great-grandmother Louisa was born in Marion County, Ohio, the daughter of German parents, Gottlieb Friederich Graessle, who was from Moosbronn, Landkreis Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg; and Christina Magdalena Zeih.

Fred’s maternal grandmother was Linna/Lena Mary Magdalena “Linnie” Grebel (the daughter of Herman Theodore/Theadore William Grebel and Marie Antonia Dorthea/Dorothea Hanf). Lena was born in Dodge County, Wisconsin, to German parents. Herman was born in Greussen, Kyffhäuserkreis, Thüringen. Fred’s great-grandmother Dorothea was born in Frankenhausen, Landkreis Zwickau, Saxony, the daughter of August Frederick Hanf and Hanna Christiane/Christine Marie Miller.
