Black Nova Scotians are a unique subset of Black Canadians. They are mostly descendant from a large group of slaves in the United States who fled to the British lines during the War of Independence/American Revolution, and were resettled in Nova Scotia. So they make up a distinct and isolated community of Black Canadians. There were other Black Loyalist immigrants to Canada, but none that retained a separate identity within the larger Black Canadian community to the degree that the Black Nova Scotians have.

Anyway, he actually has quite a few semi-famous close relatives including Leonard Kane, Dwayne Provo and Kirk Johnson. But I’ve been unable to find any of his grandparents names or even his mother’s maiden name. His black grandfather is said to be one of something like 14 children, which would be big anywhere, but especially in a isolated community like the Black Nova Scotians. So I’m surprised I haven’t seen his lineage documented. If anyone can find anything, please feel free to add.

Shouldn’t it be African-Canadian instead of Black Nova Scotian? Do they have different citizenship status?
