Edgar Bergen was an American actor, ventriloquist, comedian, and radio performer. His puppet was Charlie McCarthy.

He was the son of Swedish parents, Nella/Nilla “Nellie” Svensdotter (Osberg) and Johan Henriksson “John” Berggren/Bergren. His father was from Vanneberga, Vinslov, Skåne. His mother was from Rattelov, Hässleholms kommun, Skåne län. With his wife, actress and model Frances Bergen (born Frances Westerman), Edgar had two children, actress Candice Bergen and film and television editor Kris Bergen.

Edgar’s paternal grandfather was Malte Henrick Berggren/Breggren (the son of Nils Fredrick Berggren and Brita Ulrika Dehn). Malte was born in Yngsjo, Ahus, Skåne.
