Dolphy was a Filipino comedian and actor. He was regarded as the country’s “King of Comedy.” He was also known as Pidol and Golay.

Dolphy was the son of Salud de la Rosa Vera, a seamstress and school teacher, and Melencio Espinosa Quizon, a ship engine worker.

He had eighteen children; six, including actors Freddie Quizon and Rolly Quizon, with his former partner, actress Engracita Dominguez; four with his former partner, actress Gloria Smith; four, including actor, director, and producer Eric Quizon and comedian Epy Quizon, with his former partner, actress Pamela Ponti; one child with his former partner Evangeline Tagulao; a son, actor, comedian, and politician Vandolph, with actress Alma Moreno; and two children, including singer, songwriter, and recording artist Zia Quizon, with his former partner, actress and singer Zsa Zsa Padilla.

Dolphy’s paternal grandfather was named Modesto (or Bedasto/Vedasto) Quizon.

Dolphy’s paternal grandmother was named Isidora Espinosa.

Dolphy’s maternal grandfather was Máximo Vera y Limtico (or Máximo Limtico de Vera in Filipino, the son of Silvino de Vera y Agustín and Cristina Limtico y Vicente, or Cristina Vicente Limtico in Filipino). Maximo was born in Tondo, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines. He was of part Chinese descent. Dolphy’s great-grandmother Cristina was the daughter of Gregorio Lim Tico, who was Chinese; and of Gregoria Vicente.

Dolphy’s maternal grandmother was Lucila de la Rosa y Rávelo (or Lucila Rávelo de la Rosa in Filipino, the daughter of Benito de la Rosa y Cordero, or Benito Cordero de la Rosa in Filipino, and Macaria Rávelo y Poblete, or Macaria Poblete Rávelo in Filipino). Dolphy’s grandmother Lucila was born in Binondo, Manila, Metro Manila. Dolphy’s great-grandfather Benito was of part Chinese and Spanish descent, the son of Tomás de la Rosa and Policarpia Pitco. Dolphy’s great-grandmother Macaria was Tagalog, from Cavite Viejo (now Kawit), Cavite, the daughter of Florentino Salvador, who later adopted the family name Rávelo; and of Máxima Pascuala, who later adopted the family name Poblete.
