He previously managed Monaco, Juventus, and Marseille. He captained France to victories in the 1998 World Cup and the Euro 2000.
He is the son of Ginette (Hontarrède) and Pierre Jacques Deschamps. His first cousin is professional tennis player Nathalie Tauziat. He is married to Claude Antoinette, with whom he has a son.
