No, he is 100% Jewish. Albert Provalsky and Clara Katz married in 1928 and had four children: Lillian (b. 1930), Marilyn (b. 1935), Sheila (b. 1938), and David (b. 1942). A few years after David’s birth, Albert left Clara for another woman and moved to Los Angeles, where he died in 1956.
So his story about his dad abandoning the family is true, the Italian part is just typical ethnicity embellishment. Also, he looks exactly like Harry Shearer.
