Catherine Laga’aia is an Australian actress. She plays the title role in the live action film Moana (2026). She has also starred on the show The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

She is the daughter of Sandie Jane, who has been a deputy principal at Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus, and Jay Laga’aia, an actor and singer. Her father was born in Māngere, South Auckland, New Zealand, to Samoan parents. He was a member of the band the Consorts, who released the hit single “Māoris on 45.” Her uncle, Frank Laga’aia, was a member of Australian-based vocal harmony and dance group Ilanda. Catherine’s mother is English.

Catherine’s paternal grandfather was from Fa’aala, Palauli, Samoa.

Catherine’s paternal grandmother was from Leulumoega Tuai, Samoa.
