Richard was born in Meshack, Monroe, Kentucky, the son of Joseph Kidwell Hammer and Mary Ethel Davis. Caleb’s great-grandmother Jessie was born in Kentucky, the daughter of George Washington Buckner and Rosetta Perry.

George and his mother are listed as “White” on the 1940 U.S. Census. Caleb’s great-grandmother Nola was born in Mattawan, Van Buren, Michigan, the daughter of Dennis Flinn/Flynn Underwood and Winona/Wynona Bell Gardner. Nola and her parents are also listed as “Indian,” on the 1940 U.S. Census.
Caleb’s maternal grandmother is the daughter of Lawrence Edmond Booth and Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Davidson. Lawrence was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of Edward Arthur Booth and Helen Mary Carey. Elizabeth was born in Contra Costa, California, the daughter of Hobart D. Davidson and Marion McConnell.

He is not 25% SSA from that side, they are all watered down. Dennis Flinn Underwood was also listed as “Indian” in one record (also Mulatto/Negro):
Could be related to Taylor Lautner through shared Cisco/Sisco lines in Michigan
I know his maternal grandfather isn’t entirely African-American. I don’t mean to overshoot the estimate when saying so, but his maternal grandfather is LARGELY African-American.
Interesting fact about the Cisco/Sisco line. I’ve worked with Ciscos when doing Mike Henry’s genealogy.
He could be 10% SSS or so. It’s not shocking to look white with such admixture. Found no pic of his mom yet.

Interesting! He is probably distant Native on his maternal grandfather’s side with the fact that a lot of African-Americans had married Native Americans around the 1800s in the U.S. This does make sense
