Cale Makar is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A defenceman, he plays for, and is alternate captain of, the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL); he has also played with the Canada national team. With multiple Norris Trophies, he is highly regarded as one of the best defenders in the NHL.

Cale is the son of Laura and Gary Makar. His brother, Taylor Makar, is also a hockey player. His father’s cousin was professional ice hockey player Tom Lysiak. Cale is married to Tracy Evans.

Cale’s paternal grandfather was Peter A. Makar (the son of Peter Makar and Katarine Zelles). Katarine was Ukrainian.

Cale’s paternal grandmother was named Helen Lysiak.

Cale’s maternal grandfather was named John W. MacGregor.
