Brenda Fricker was an Irish actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for My Left Foot (1989). Her roles also included the films The Music Machine, The Field (1990), Utz, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, So I Married an Axe Murderer, A Man of No Importance, Angels in the Outfield (1994), Moll Flanders, A Time to Kill, Swann (1996), Masterminds (1997), Painted Angels, Resurrection Man, Pete’s Meteor, The War Bride, The Intended, Conspiracy of Silence (2003), Veronica Guerin, Trauma (2004), Inside I’m Dancing, Tara Road, How About You, Closing the Ring, Stone of Destiny (2008), Locked In (2010), Cloudburst (2011), Albert Nobbs, and The Miracle Club; the series Coronation Street, The Quatermass Conclusion, Cockles, Casualty, Forgive Me, Holding, and The Catch; the made-for-tv movies Bloody Kids, The Ballroom of Romance, Journey (1995), Durango, Cupid & Cate, Watermelon (2003), Omagh, and Call Me: The Rise and Fall of Heidi Fleiss; and the mini-series Brides of Christ, Seekers, and A Woman of Independent Means.

Brenda was the daughter of “Bina” (Murphy), a teacher at Stratford College, and Desmond Frederick Fricker, an officer in the Department of Agriculture and a journalist for The Irish Times.
