Barry White was an American singer, songwriter, and composer. His works included soul, funk, and disco songs, including “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” and “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything.” He was also known as Lee Barry.
He was the son of Sadie/Sadye Marie/Mae Carter, an actress, and Melvin Arthur White. His father was born in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. His mother was born in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas. He was raised partly in the Watts section of South Central Los Angeles, California. He had four children with his former wife Mary; four children with his former wife, singer Glodean James; and a daughter with Gurtha Allen.
Barry’s paternal grandmother was named Mollie Louise White.
