Dame Anna Neagle was a British actress, singer, and dancer. She was the daughter of Florence (Neagle) and Capt. Herbert William Robertson, a Merchant Navy captain. Her father was Scottish. Her mother was born in Ireland. Her brother was bass-baritone and actor Stuart Robertson. She was married to film producer and director Herbert Wilcox, until his death. He produced and directed most of her films.

Anna was said to have been a great-aunt of actor Nicholas Hoult. It is not clear through which line the two were related, or if the relation was biological.
