You know, I remember when Mayor Gavin Newsom made same-sex marriage legal in San Francisco (well, not quite legally, of course, but who cared?) and couples streamed to Civic Center. I rode my bike out to stand on the steps and cheer and felt my heart choke my throat. And yes, big surprise that small-minded assholes responded with Prop 8 a little while later. But something had broken. A tide was turning. For a while there, reality was the way it was supposed to be. The future was going to happen whether people liked it or not.
No more small-minded assholes trying to vote away human rights. It can't be done.
I remember that first couple I saw coming out of City Hall, an older lady with silver hair kissing a younger gal wearing a rainbow necklace made of hearts. They were so, so happy. I was so happy for them.
I'm over the moon for us all today, because this is the way it was supposed to be.
I totally forgot to post this the other day: I was riding home and noticed SF City Hall was lit up for a Pride event. Just gorgeous, and made me silly with glee. I went home and googled the event/happening, but apparently it wasn't for the hoi polloi because I couldn't find it. Still, they shared it with us brilliantly just the same:
Another reason why walking/biking rocks: you can just stop right there and gawk/snap pics. :D
