My Top Ten Hits on AO3:
All For Grace 9660 (H50, Steve/Danny, PG, 7552 words) : The one where Steve goes full-on ninja to rescue Grace. The whole team + cast do, actually.
A.W.O.L. 9445 (SGA/SG-1, John/Rodney, PG, 7488 words) : SGA Sentinel Fusion. John is MIA presumed dead after Afghanistan and runs into this annoying physicist in a coffee shop in Colorado Springs and ends up saving his life.
Jack-in-the-Box 7447 (SHGoS, Holmes/Mary/Watson, NC-17, 11236 words) : After Holmes returns there are recriminations. And then changes, subtle and insidious. There may even be a plot afoot. If only Holmes were more of a detective.
Foothold 7351 (SGA/SG-1, John/Rodney, NC-17, 28490 words) : Sequel to A.W.O.L. This Guide/Sentinel thing isn't as easy as it looks.
Finding the Path 6030 (H50, Steve/Danny, NC-17, 13234 words) : Prof. Danny Williams is Deputy Director at the Foundation for Sensory Research, where Lt. Commander Steve McGarrett has just been admitted with Acute Hyperactive Sensory Syndrome.
Hug Ninja 5029 (H50, Steve/Danny, PG, 1358 words) : Steve is a stealth hugger. (I think it got so many hits because it was part of the HUG FEST.)
Wind Arrow 4854 (SGA AU, John/Rodney, NC-17, 14487 words) : Part of Fair Trade. Rodney gets bonked on the head.
Fair Trade 4579 (SGA AU, John/Rodney, NC-17, 18667 words) : John owns a roastery, Rodney builds science exhibits, Ronon is a surgeon and Teyla is a doctah. John is partially disabled. But he saved Holland.
Everything's Maika`i (Like I Said) 4557 (H50, Steve/Danny, PG, 1575 words) : This might be my best H50 story. Danny the existential poet! Not. Nothing much happens except Steve ices Danny's knee.
'Olu'Olu 3187 (H50, Steve/Danny, NC-17, 1349 words) : Danny teaches Steve a lesson in common civility. In which I coin the term "blowjob-fu." (Danny apparently has it in spades.)
Hey kids: it's almost time for the Fandom Year in Review Meme, where we post our word count and answer some questions about the previous year in writing. ( Read more...Collapse )
Many thanks to all who participated in the HUGFEST (and please, by all means KEEP HUGGING). I just had to make a recap post so folks could easily find all the wonderful hugs. You guys rock so hard.
Folks you ready to make some hugs? Doesn't matter who, but it's IMPORTANT. Could be Rodney hugging Teyla or Danno hugging Chin. Tony hugging Bruce because man, it's not easy being huge and green. <3
Could be your favorite pairing hugging in warm summer moonlight (it *is* summer, isn't it? Feels like it) or best friend hugging a wounded comrade IDK I don't care HUGS WE NEED HUGS.
well, I flaked (most appropriately) out of much of the challenge for various reasons, but here is my day 15 response:
In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fangirls (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.
I think my very favoritist moment in fandom was when I was working on the 2006 BASCon vid show with morgandawn. She had just finished mastering and I was proofing the DVDs against the insert in preparation of doing the artwork for the liners. I had read ahead on the sheet that one of the songs was called "I Put You There" and thought to myself, huh, I helped write the music for a song with the same name back in my old a capella group. Then when I reached the opening frames of the vid by laurashapiro, I happened to be on the phone with Morgan discussing I dunno what, comparative track volumes, I think, and she was there to hear me yell, holy shit, that's my group, that's our song!
The vid, jeez, was just an amazing recontextualizing of my friend's lyrics (which I already adored) and it was both a meta-vid and about a show I loved anyway (Buffy) so that was pretty much the best fandom moment ever for me, made even better when I got to meet Laura and squee and discovered she's as fantastic as you might expect.
Happy birthday a day early Laura! So lucky to have you in my life these past five years.
1. riding my bicycle all over this crazy town that I love. sure, there are hills, but I love them best, truth be told, love the way my heart goes BOOM BOOM BOOM, love the view from the top, love the wind in my face going down. love that I'm not using gas, or spending money on insurance or parking tickets, and that everywhere I go, it always takes the same amount of time to get there (except during rainy season when I have to strap on some gear, yeah.) LOVE my bike.
2. I make music with my baritone ukulele, write kooky songs and sing with my buds. here's a sample from my old band. my current duo is in hiatus until my partner gets out of med school.
3. I do pottery, high-fire ceramics, stoneware. stuff you can safely eat off of and throw in your dishwasher - I'm into functional not decorative, and the studio I go to has a lot of older folks who have been doing this for a lot of years. they are patient with us only-an-egg types, always willing to help us with our questions. here's a photo of my stuff from one of the firings.
4. I play softball, now that my shoulder is back in action. I play first base. I run very, very slowly, but that's okay, because I tend to hit to right field so I give myself time to get there. :)
