Just heard the new Bond theme "Skyfall." I love Adele, but although she might have been the right singer for a different song, she was neither the right singer nor writer for this one - it's dreck. I'm glad they decided to forgo urban and move back to a ballad, but this one is slow, boring, and unimaginative, right up there with "Moonraker" or "All Time High." Sorry Adele, but I think my favorite is still a tie between "Goldeneye" and "You Know My Name."
Today is my birthday. I have taken the day off from work. I fucking HATE "Top Gear." Please remove it immediately and replace it with a day long marathon of "Doctor Who" or "Star Trek."
I'm sorry the truth hurts to hear, but at least I wasn't mean about it. I'll even be nice and give you a chance to make things right, but know I'm not holding my breath...
Spent the weekend getting ready for Pennsic. Ye gods I spend so much work getting ready for my vacation it's exhausting. (And it would be worse if I didn't have the storage unit there.)
Friday I got an eye exam, a haircut, and did some gaming, but Friday was spent in the rain under a tarp spread between the back of my car and the front of my landlord's truck while sorting through tubs full of garb (as I don't have any room in my apartment to spread out). Fortunately Sunday was bright and sunny so everything dried up and I did a practice run of loading the car (which, after putting in the things I know for a fact are going, turned into a "fuck it, I'm just leaving everything in there" real-time run).
The rest of this week will be spent sorting through and pulling stuff I'm not taking (as I'm running out of room) and various other tidbits, including the finishing touches on a gift I'm making for an old friend.
I'm also crazy busy with stuff at work, including a checklist of things to do, and today felt like a total waste.
However, if all goes well I'll leave for Philly Friday, drop off the cats at Mom's, and then head out to Pennsic on Saturday. FINALLY.
P.S. Did I mention MAJOR land grab drama? Oh, the fun never ends...
Up all night with heartburn. I knew that pasta alfredo would come back to haunt me (but it was sooo good). Calling out sick and gonna try to get some sleep. BLAH. :(
Made it into work this morning. Still coughing, and I sound like Brenda Vaccaro, but I don't feel nearly as bad as I did, so I'm doing payroll, getting caught up, and going home.
* Last Wednesday - heartburn all night long * Saturday to Tuesday - flu knocked me down hard * This morning - dead battery, had to get a jump * Tonight - woke up with intense back pain, so my first trip to an ER.
This is on top of that massive ear infection before Pennsic and a couple of other smaller health details I've been dealing with.
They just took a CAT scan but the pain is now entirely gone, so I'm hoping I just pulled something. Will post more when I can.
Oh, hello, 4:00 a.m. What's this charming gift you've brought me? Oh, my - a toothache! How thoughtful! Here, let me get some Aleve, Advil and aspirin to go with it - so complementary! And that delightful cup of tea was very enjoyable as well. Well, thanks for visiting, but I need to get back to sleep since I have work this morning. I'm sure I'll see you again soon!
The thermometer in my office says it is 87.1 degrees. The A/C isn't turned on until April 15 (or maybe it's May 1). It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, but then thankfully cool back off to the 60s/70s by Friday. UGH. At least in the library it's not humid, but still.
Tossed and turned all night and woke up feeling crappy, so I called out sick. Bleargh.
I had the STRANGEST dream last night, involving discovering Warren G. Harding's body, re-burying it in Washington, and the funeral being an elaborate but hokey outdoor play (in the round, with the audience sitting on the ground), including interruptions by inappropriate laughter at the poor production and loud, obnoxious tourists not knowing they were walking into a staged funeral service.
Back at work, which isn't such a bad thing. Lots to do, but nothing exploded in my absence. Head and nose are still stuffy, but hacking cough has all but abated and I'm actually hungry, so those are good things.
Q wants to see Avatar in 3D tomorrow night, and then I'm going to try to get some housecleaning done this weekend as we've finally set the date for Gaymas and have much to do to get the house back in shape in time.
Well, so much for heading back to work tomorrow. I must have caught something at the NYE party we went to, 'cause I woke up stuffy and sniffly and achy and BLEH. Had something major to do first thing in the morning, but that's why I set up redundant systems so it'll still get done. Yay. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Q went out to get me dinner, but only after torturing me all day long. Some bedside manner! :(
Could NOT get to sleep last night, tossed and turned until well past 4 am, woke up tired and my stomach was in knots, so I called out sick. Slept all afternoon, Q and I did a little grocery shopping, and now I'm going to get to bed and hope for the best. BLEH.
Spent the last two days home sick. Stomach/head thing, plus couldn't sleep. Ugh. Back to work tomorrow, though - lots of stuff to do before another 3-day weekend. On top of that my sewing machine needs a tune-up, Q's computer power supply seems to have given up the ghost, and the power outages have fucked up the house phone lines.
In better news, I did finish Q's chiton, and I must say I'm proud of the way it turned out. He's going to look hawt. He leaves tomorrow morning. Meanwhile Mom may come down for a day or two over the weekend - not sure yet.
I also got a call from Celeb telling me that a former member of the BF encampment told him that if other camps knew how welcome we were and what a family we've managed to create over the years, they'd be insanely jealous. That made us both feel good. :) (Oh, and if you're going, there are 5 days left to pre-reg, and only 44 days until Pennsic. Lots to do, lots to do...)
I think that's it. I wish the last few days had been more interesting, but I spent the majority of them sleeping, sewing or feeling nauseous. Bleh.
$425 for a new starter, plus he'll need a new battery within the next couple of months. Oh, well - more money from the Move Back to San Diego fund gone. :(
Today is both a wash due to it being my co-worker's last day (we're small enough that the farewell celebrations will eat up the entire afternoon, and planning for them will eat up most of the late morning) and a day I'd like to just quit and walk out (not entirely necessarily due to the aforementioned wash). Fortunately I'm leaving at lunch so I can go home to finish getting ready for the party. However, starting Monday it just starts to get worse since she'll be gone. Bah.
Good weekend at Mom's. Took Friday off, got a few things done, including covering the pool and finally getting her set up with high speed internet. Good Sister came down with the kids Saturday. Prince puked on the way up, and Posh caterwauled for an hour on the way back. Very odd for both of them. Also came home with a box full of Dad's tools.
Work is kicking my ass, in both bad and good ways. Students are back, which is fun in a masochistic sort of way, but we're BUSY. Plus, my co-worker's last day is Friday, so we're having both an open house for the campus to say goodbye here in the office in the afternoon, and then we're hosting a private office farewell at Pride House that night. LOTS to do to get ready, but it'll be nice to have a party again.
Went to a swing dance class last week with a co-worker. It was fun since she already knew the basics, and I got to lead for a change. Reminded me how much I miss two-stepping with Uncle Rashid (who I should really call soon).
Some other stuff is coming up, including a trip to the MD Ren Faire in a couple of weeks and Gaylaxicon in October, plus my birthday and all that. Mom wants to do Walt Disney World in December, and if we can swing it we're going to go, especially considering Lyttle John is a Cast Member.
I just ate the worst crackers evar. Bleh. I'll just have the Swiss cheese on top, thankyouverymuch.
