Bleargh!

Dammit, I think I borked the cookies. Need fresher shortening!

Christmas, revisited

I woke up to wrapped Christmas presents on the bed yesterday (meaning he finally got around to buying my gifts), so we went shopping, went out to dinner, and opened everything up when we got home. Some of the stuff I gave Q he was expecting (they were bought before Christmas with the caveat that they would be considered Christmas gifts), but I managed to get him a couple of surprises he liked. He got me a Sleepy figurine, a big book about cats, a stir fry cookbook, 3 seasons of The Venture Bros., the 3 Farscape novels, Harry Connick, Jr.'s new CD, and a new pair of slippers.

I guess I should also mention what we got from our families. I got a lot of bakeware since I mentioned I didn't have everything I wanted, so I guess I'm going to have to start doing more baking - oh woe is me. :) We also got some cat-themed photo frames, some Christmas ornament frames (also for the cats), two cat stocking holders (of course they have their own stockings!), Harry Potter Clue, a digital camcorder, a digital photo frame, a cat calendar, The Amazing Race DVD game, Michael Buble's Christmas CD, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and a couple of shirts and sweaters.

So all in all, we had a nice holiday, plus we still have Gaymas on Saturday, so the holidays continue. Oh, and tonight I'm going to pick up a free 42" TV his co-worker is looking to get rid of since he went plasma - score for us! :)

Cake (no death)

Poll #1380999 Homemade?

If you make a cake from a mix, are you allowed to call it "homemade?"

Sure. You made it at home, didn't you?
8(18.6%)
Um, no. It has to be from scratch to be homemade.

OMG CAKE!

Random thoughts to close out this Friday

  • Why don't supermarkets carry sweet potato fries? I haven't been able to find them in any of my local grocery stores.

  • Gas at $1.99! I haven't seen that since before I left San Diego.

  • Every time I see a black person now I think, "President." (I think I'm going to expound on this more later.)

  • It's raining! Yay!

  • Did I mention when we lost power today the electric pole caught fire?

  • I made gingerbread tonight. It was either that or mint frosted brownies.

  • Those green vegetable storage bags really work!

  • Cranberry Sierra Mist is back for Christmas! Yum!

  • I finally put all those tote bags from various cons to work - I use them as grocery bags.

  • When you put silverware in the dishwasher, put the sharp pointy things in sharp pointy side DOWN. Ouch.

  • You know it's been a long week when you fall asleep on the couch after you finish dinner. :)

G'nite folks!

Friday? Already?

One more day of work, and I fully expect to stay at least a couple of hours late to finish everything on my plate. I've got just about everything to do for Pennsic before I leave on Saturday, but at least I have two pairs of pants, two robes and a hippari to show for my lack of progress in other areas.

All that and I still made coffee cake for an office breakfast pot luck tomorrow. I rule.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Had a good weekend. Got all the house lights up (similar to last year), and just need to follow up with a few odds and ends (gonna decorate the big tree out front this year). We also started our shopping, which reminds me of how much money we *don't* have. We're heading up to my mom's for Christmas and the annual Margibtinlin board meeting & holiday party, but most of our local friends will be in NYC for New Year's Eve, so we're planning "Gaymas" sometime in mid-January like we did last year (*much* easier to deal with that way). Now we need to find a sitter for the kids.

Speaking of, Posh and Prince continue to be cute and fuzzy, and ever-hungry noodges as well. It's definitely different having two cats versus just one, but it's worth it when they deign us worth enough to sleep on top of. They're finishing off their medication for the kennel cough they got, but now we're fighting ear mites. Whee.

Quincy's been going out a lot in DC over the weekends, but has been nice enough to leave me home. They did go to an event at Remington's, the c/w bar, and now they all want to learn how to two-step, so I guess I'll be dustin' off my boots sometime soon to show them how. Yee haw. :)

Work is work. I love the students, but some of them are just too stupid to live. How did they get into college? It's sad at times. Otherwise, though, I do love the work, and the office, so it's all good. (I am, however, looking forward to that week and a half off soon.) Oh, and my umpteenth review was as expected - satisfactory, not outstanding, and somewhat snarky despite the distance. No worries - it's done, and doesn't affect me one whit.

I think I'll make cookies this weekend. We have our office holiday party on Monday (the students leave Friday), so it'll be fun.

The weather's been nuts. This time last week the whole place was covered in snow, and today it's going up to the 80's. Weird.

Oh, we found out a couple of weeks ago that a friend of ours is HIV+. Kind of a downer, but I know he'll come through it shining, not only because he's a lot stronger person than he thinks he is, but his best friend is a great role model in that respect.

That's it. Get back to work. :P
