Nicolás Cristancho Quintero
Colombian multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and educator. Graduated with a major in piano by the Escola Superior de Música of Catalonia (ESMUC) in Barcelona, and the Javeriana University in Bogota.
Winner in 2009 of the Mazda scholarship for art studies. Also awarded a scholarship by the Superior Conservatory del Liceu in Barcelona to do a post-graduate degree in jazz piano.
Since 2002 leads the Yurgaki project, which has released four albums, two in dance genres "Ojo x Diente" and "Gozación Espiral" and the other in jazz, "3 Nuevas formas de respirar bajo el agua" and " Puntos de Giro ". With his group has toured the United States, France, Italy, Azerbaijan, Romania, Morocco, Ecuador and Colombia. During this tours he also make several workshops in body percussion, improvisation, and musical sensibilization.
He has made research on traditional music in Cuba and in the Caribbean and the Pacific of Colombia. Now he lives in Barcelona where are researching on Mediterranean music and the multicultural interaction of the city that has allowed him to approach the "Chorinho" of Brazil, to the “Son” of Mexico, Peruvian Afro music, flamenco and Balkan Gypsy music. In Barcelona he works as pianist, marimba player, singer, songwriter and producer within Yurgaki, Sones de Marimba and Chonta Dura projects, among others.
He also work as teacher of piano, voice, body percussion, and traditonal colombian music in Barcelona since 2009.
