Viktor Lowenfeld (1903–1960)
Fue un profesor de educación
artística en la Universidad
Estatal de Pensilvania, que
ayudó a definir y desarrollar el
campo de la educación artística
en los Estados Unidos. En 1947
publicó Creative and Mental
Growth, que se convirtió en el
libro más influyente en
educación artística durante la
última mitad del siglo XX.

EDUCACIÓN
EL SIGNIFICADO DE LAS ACTIVIDADES
ARTÍSTICAS
El niño nos transmite sus emociones a través del arte,
el arte construido por él gracias a sus experiencias. La
educación del niño lo convierte en un miembro útil y
adaptado a la sociedad, pero sin embargo en la
escuela más que aprender premisas morales se valora
el memorizar datos, unos datos que no se cuestionan
cuando lo óptimo sería enseñarles a los niños a
descubrir y buscar respuestas por sí mismos; y esto
último está contenido precisamente en las actividades
artísticas.
EL SIGNIFICADO DE LAS ACTIVIDADES
ARTÍSTICAS
A los niños no hay que
encorsetarlos en su acción
creadora, sino dejar que
aprendan a crear creando,
porque ellos no tienen que ver
la realidad sino con su propia
mirada, la de un ser que
asimila y descubre su entorno.
SIGNIFICADO DEL ARTE PARA LOS NIÑOS
Para los niños el arte es un medio
de expresión, y a diferencia de lo
que se hace comúnmente, el
maestro no debe coartar su
libertad creadora diciéndole qué
color usar y demás, pues esto
acabaría otorgándole miedos que
destruyen su confianza en sí
mismo. Así, el arte será un
instrumento de auto expresión
para niños tímidos y retraídos.
LOS SENTIDOS COMO BASE DEL
APRENDIZAJE
Solamente a través de los sentidos puede tener
lugar el aprendizaje, y esto es algo que no se
valora lo suficiente en la educación del niño. En
un mundo donde las experiencias sensoriales
con el medio son cada vez más difíciles debido a
la artificialidad del mismo, la educación artística
es la única disciplina que realmente se
concentra en el desarrollo de las experiencias
sensoriales. Es ahí donde el niño entrará en
contacto con las texturas, las formas y el color
más profundamente.

En la actualidad vivimos
en un mundo alienizante
en el cual el individuo
pocas veces se siente
identificado con lo que
hace. Será entonces
cuando la diversión y el
entretenimiento cobren
una mayor importancia
para la autodeterminación
IMPORTANCIA DE LA
AUTOIDENTIFICACIÓN Y DE LA
AUTOEXPRESIÓN
Este problema descrito anteriormente debería
amortiguarse con la educación, una educación que nos
ayude a identificarnos con nosotros mismos. Se debe
enseñar al niño a interactuar con otros seres humanos, a
relacionarse, y no sólo con niños de su misma edad, sino
con una muestra más amplia, lo que podría evitar el
alejamiento, la indiferencia, el antagonismo e incluso la
violencia.

AUTOEXPRESIÓN
No hay expresión artística posible sin la auto-
identificación con la experiencia expresada; es la
verdadera expresión del yo, y para que un niño
comprenda las necesidades del prójimo, primero debe
conocerse a sí mismo, algo a lo que el arte ayuda; la
auto-expresión. Existe una gran satisfacción en poder
expresar los propios sentimientos y emociones en el
arte, expresando así su propia importancia a través del
medio apropiado. Sin embargo, el niño que imita puede
convertirse en un ser dependiente en cuanto a sus
pensamientos y llegar a subordinar sus ideas a las de
otro, lo que puede conducirlo a la frustración.

INTERPRETACIÓN DEL DESARROLLO
La figura que un niño dibuja o
pinta refleja los sentimientos, la
capacidad intelectual, el desarrollo
físico, la aptitud perceptiva, el
factor creador implícito, el gusto
estético, e incluso el desarrollo
social del individuo. También se
perfilan en ellos todas las
transformaciones que sufre el niño
a medida que crece y se
desarrolla, un desarrollo
compuesto por varios factores.
DESARROLLO EMOCIONAL O AFECTIVO

constituir la oportunidad
para su desarrollo
emocional.

confianza en sus propios medios de expresión y recurrir a
las repeticiones estereotipadas como un mecanismo de

esos objetos; está simplemente representándolos de
forma pasiva.
