Preguntas Wh-
Introduction
Las preguntas informativas [wh- questions] siempre empiezan con preguntas wh-
(pronombres interrogativos) y sirven para mostrar qué tipo de información se necesita.
Form
Para crear una pregunta wh, ponemos un verbo auxiliar o modal después de una pregunta wh–
y antes de un sujeto.
En el presente (simple y continuo) usamos formas del presente de los verbos auxiliares y
modales.
La estructura de las preguntas wh- es:
Con el verbo auxiliar:
Wh- question word + auxiliary verb (present form) + subject + verb + …?
Con el verbo modal:
Wh- question word + modal verb (present form) + subject + verb + …?
Sin verbo auxiliar:
What/who + verb (third person singular) + …?
Which/whose + noun + verb (third person singular/plural) + …?
Las palabras de preguntas wh- son: when, where, why, which, what, whose, who, whom y
how.
Example
What can I do now?
When does she need to wear glasses?
Where did you live 10 years ago?
Which synagogue is yours?
Who listened carefully?
Whom did he call?
Whose lawyer is this?
Why have you got Christian hereditary?
How old were you when you became religious?
Use
Las palabras wh- que se usan para hacer preguntas son:
When = cuándo (para pedir información sobre tiempo);
Where = dónde (para pedir información sobre lugar);
Why = por qué (para pedir una razón);

Which = cuál (para pedir información sobre una preferencia entre dos o más cosas);
What = qué (para pedir información sobre algo);
Whose = de quién (para pedir información sobre a quien pertenece algo);
Who = quién (para pedir información sobre gente, como un sujeto);
Whom = a quién(para pedir información sobre gente, como un objeto);
How* = cómo (para pedir información sobre la manera en que se hace algo, cómo algo pasa).
Estas preguntas también se llaman preguntas abiertas porque las respuestas posibles son
infinitas.
*How no empieza con wh-, pero se considera también un pronombre interrogativo (wh-
question).
