por investigar sensorialmente la materia en transformación y navegar en medio de la interacción entre lo humano y lo
no humano. Compuesto por más de 20 cortometrajes, un mediometraje y dos largometrajes, su trabajo ha sido exhibido
y reconocido con numerosos galardones en destacados escenarios del cine mundial, entre ellos la Mención Especial
del Festival Internacional de Cine de Locarno IFF y el Premio Schnitzer del MIT a la excelencia en las artes. La obra
de Jessica Sarah Rinland reivindica los sentidos en un mundo dominado por la tiranía del ojo. Se trata de un cine que
viaja entre las pieles, recorre los pelos y exalta los afectos. La cámara, como herramienta y como cuerpo, analiza de
cerca interacciones dispares —la carne abierta de una ballena y el bisturí, el roce entre el borrador de un lápiz y una

The Argentine-British director, director of photography and artist Jessica Sarah Rinland (1986) is characterized by her
sensory investigation of matter in transformation and her navigation through the interaction between the human and the
non-human. With more than 20 short films, a medium-length film and two feature films, her work has been exhibited and
recognized with numerous awards at prominent international film festivals, including the Special Mention at the Locarno
International Film Festival and the MIT Schnitzer Prize for excellence in the arts. Jessica Sarah Rinland’s work vindicates
the senses in a world dominated by the tyranny of sight. It is a cinema that travels between skins, runs through hair and
exalts affections. The camera, as a tool and as a body, closely analyzes disparate interactions — the open flesh of a
whale and the scalpel, the friction between the eraser of a pencil and a T-shirt — seeking to know, smell, touch, bite. The
viewer then finds a certain sweat between their hands. Rinland’s work shows a great interest in memory, as well as in the
biological and chemical evolution of these operations over time.

Al cuerpo animal de las películas de Ana Vaz le crecen ramas. Arborescente, su obra nos invita a caminar
la pregunta: ¿qué puede representar el cine como una tecnología que, a manera de pharmakon, pendula entre el
veneno y la medicina? En tres programas, esta retrospectiva reúne un largometraje y diez cortometrajes. Niñas
brujas. Pedagogía. Máquinas que hacen carreteras en la selva. La mirada animal que nos recuerda invasoras. Aquí,
los minerales de las cámaras funcionan como dispositivos que activan la memoria material de la imagen: las películas
están hechas de tierra. Al observarlas, nos traen una realidad compartida de piedras. Somos ambas –las películas y
nosotras, quienes observamos– minerales que reciben luz. El cine y el cosmos se replican mutuamente. La red de vida
de los territorios filmados nos recuerda que la sobrenaturaleza produce todo el tiempo aquellos entes que llamamos
“imágenes en movimiento”. En medio del lenguaje audiovisual, la facultad mimética de estas películas-animales se abre
paso, revelando una arqueología estelar de imágenes subterráneas –antiguas y recientes a la vez–, muy vivas, muy
fantasmas, y con los pies bien enraizados en la tierra.

The animal body of Ana Vaz’s films grows branches. Arborescent, her work invites us to ask ourselves:
what can cinema represent as a technology that, like a pharmakon, oscillates between poison and medicine? In three
programs, this retrospective brings together one feature film and ten short films. Girl witches. Pedagogy. Machines that
make paths in the jungle. The animal gaze that reminds us as invaders Here, the minerals of the cameras function as
devices that activate the material memory of the image: the films are made of earth. When we watch them, they bring us a
shared reality of stones. We are both - the films and we who observe - minerals that receive the light. Cinema and cosmos
replicate each other. The web of life of the filmed territories reminds us that supernature produces all the time those
entities we call “moving images”. In the midst of audiovisual language, the mimetic faculty of these animal-films breaks
through, revealing a stellar archeology of subterranean images - ancient and recent at the same time - very much alive,
very ghostly, and with their feet firmly rooted in the earth.

Arturo Jaramillo

Desde los años 60, el cineasta Arturo Jaramillo ha desarrollado una vasta obra experimental compuesta
por más de 30 cortometrajes en súper 8 y 16 mm. Su trabajo comprende un atlas etnográfico de Colombia que abarca
desde los joyeros de Mompox, el proceso de preparación de la ayahuasca en el Putumayo –dirigida por el taita Salvador
Chindoy–, hasta un retrato del pintor Santiago Cárdenas y otro de un célebre café bogotano, la mañana siguiente a
la consecución del Premio Nobel de Gabriel García Márquez. Su cine es radical y se niega a renunciar a la naturaleza
frágil del proyector analógico, explorando la vida de personas dedicadas a sus oficios y los territorios subyacentes de
la geografía colombiana. Siguiendo la línea de cineastas experimentales como Nathaniel Dorsky, Jaramillo considera
esencial el ritual físico del celuloide y el sonido de la máquina en operación para la experiencia cinematográfica. Por ello,
nunca ha permitido la digitalización de su trabajo, limitando su alcance a un público reducido. El FICCI 64 presentará
14 títulos en Super 8 y 16 mm en presencia del director, invocando aquellos fantasmas y paisajes de una cinematografía
dispuesta siempre a cambiar de lugar sus extremidades.

Since the 1960s, filmmaker Arturo Jaramillo has developed an extensive experimental oeuvre consisting of
more than 30 short films in Super 8 and 16 mm. His work encompasses an ethnographic atlas of Colombia, ranging from
the Mompox jewelers, the ayahuasca preparation process in Putumayo - directed by taita Salvador Chindoy- to a portrait
of the painter Santiago Cárdenas and another of a famous Bogotá café the morning after Gabriel García Márquez won
the Nobel Prize. His cinema is radical and refuses to abandon the fragile nature of the analogue projector, exploring the
lives of people dedicated to their professions and the underlying territories of Colombian geography. Following the line
of experimental filmmakers such as Nathaniel Dorsky, Jaramillo considers the physical ritual of celluloid and the sound
of the machine in operation essential to the cinematic experience. For this reason, he has never allowed his work to be
digitized, limiting its reach to a small audience. FICCI 64 will present 14 titles in Super 8 and 16 mm in the presence of the
director, invoking those ghosts and landscapes of a cinematography always ready to change its extremities.

En la Alemania de los años 90 surgió un fenómeno cinematográfico que hoy día se conoce como la «Escuela
de Berlín». Este término no fue acuñado por los propios cineastas, sino por críticos que intentaron conceptualizar un
nuevo desarrollo más allá de la corriente dominante del cine alemán. Los pioneros de la Escuela de Berlín son Thomas
Arslan, Christian Petzold y Angela Schanelec. Les une su formación en la Academia Alemana de Cine y Televisión de
Berlín (DFFB) a mediados de la década de 1990, en los años posteriores a la caída del muro y la reunificación alemana.
Las observaciones cinematográficas de momentos en la vida de los personajes son el centro de este estilo narrativo
que rápidamente se consolidó como una revolución dramática y estética: lejos de analizar abiertamente las condiciones
sociales o de extraer motivaciones psicológicas, la filmografía de la Escuela de Berlín se caracteriza por instantáneas de
situaciones cotidianas que rodean a los protagonistas y que amplifican formidablemente su vida interior. Una selección
de directores de la llamada próxima generación –y cuyo trabajo cinematográfico comenzó poco después del cambio
de milenio– también forma parte importante de esta retrospectiva: Henner Winckler, Ulrich Köhler, Maren Ade, Maria
Speth, Valeska Grisebach, Christoph Hochhäusler y Benjamin Heisenberg. Fue la película debutante de Thomas Arslan
en la sección Panorama de la Berlinale en 1994, Turn Down the Music, la que sentó las bases de lo que más tarde se

Germany in the 90s. A cinematic phenomenon emerged that is nowadays known as the ‘Berlin School’. This
term was not coined by the filmmakers themselves, but by critics who attempted to conceptualize a new development
beyond the mainstream of German cinema. The pioneers of the Berlin School are Thomas Arslan, Christian Petzold and
Angela Schanelec. They were united by their studies at the German Academy of Film and Television in Berlin (DFFB)
in the mid-1990s, in the years following the fall of the wall and German reunification. Cinematographic observations
of moments in the characters’ lives are at the center of this narrative style that quickly established itself as a dramatic
and aesthetic revolution: far from openly analyzing social conditions or extracting psychological motivations, the
filmography of the Berlin School is characterized by snapshots of everyday situations surrounding the protagonists that
amplify astonishingly their inner life. A selection of directors from the so-called next generation - whose film work began
shortly after the turn of the millennium - also form an important part of this retrospective: Henner Winckler, Ulrich Köhler,
