¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo están? Yo soy Berto.
Berto Ramírez Rodríguez. Soy un chico. Tengo

Nota cultural
What is the school week like in Spain?
The daily timetable varies depending on the school and region.
Generally, most students go to primary schools from 9am to
noon, with a long lunch break up to three hours before going
back to school from 3pm to 5pm.
Both private and state primary schools normally look after a
child from the beginning to the end of the school day (9am-
5pm). School lunch may be available, although some students
bring a packed lunch or go home for lunch. Lunch is considered
the main meal of the Spanish day.
In cities, the school day can end at 2pm, with only a short lunch
break or no break at all. Some schools may also decide to open
half days in September and June. Schools in large cities may have
school activities before and after school.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Magaly Rodríguez was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She is the
daughter of Manuel and María del Pilar, both of whom were
born and raised in Galicia, Spain. She graduated from The
College of New Jersey with a degree in education and Spanish.
In the following years, she completed two Masters degrees,
one in English as a Second Language, the other in Educational
Leadership: Curriculum and Instruction. Magaly is currently
a middle school Spanish teacher in New Jersey. Her passions
include teaching, volunteering and traveling. She is a project
coordinator for the non-profit organization Jersey Cares (www.
[Link]) and has traveled to several European countries
as well as Egypt and China. This book was written for her sixth-
graders whom she loves dearly. Knowing that reading is of utmost
importance for acquiring a second language, Magaly wanted to
provide her students with comprehensible input that was both
interesting and repetitive.
