Para evitar posibles lesiones, no utilice el motor de arranque
para girar el volante.
Los componentes calientes del motor pueden provocar
quemaduras. Deje tiempo adicional para que el motor se enfríe
antes de medir el juego de válvulas.
Si el juego de válvulas requiere ajuste varias veces en un período corto de tiempo, existe
un desgaste excesivo en una parte diferente del motor. Repare el problema para evitar
más daños al motor.
Un juego de válvulas insuficiente puede ser la causa del rápido desgaste del árbol de
levas y de los elevadores de válvulas. Un juego de válvulas insuficiente puede indicar
que los asientos de las válvulas están dañados.
Las válvulas se dañan debido a las siguientes causas:
Las boquillas de inyección de combustible no funcionan correctamente.
Hay excesiva suciedad y aceite en los filtros de la entrada de aire.
Ajustes de combustible incorrectos en la bomba de inyección de combustible.
La capacidad de carga del motor se excede con frecuencia.
Demasiado juego de válvulas puede provocar la rotura de vástagos de válvulas, resortes
y retenedores de resorte. Demasiado juego de válvulas puede ser una indicación de los
siguientes problemas:
Elevadores de válvulas y árboles de levas desgastados
Brazos basculantes gastados
Varillas de empuje dobladas
Enchufe roto en el extremo superior de una varilla de empuje
Tornillo de ajuste suelto para el juego de válvulas
Si el árbol de levas y los elevadores de válvulas muestran un desgaste rápido, busque
combustible en el aceite de lubricación o aceite de lubricación sucio como una posible
causa.
Comprobación del juego de válvulas
El juego de la válvula se mide entre la parte superior del vástago de la válvula y la
palanca del balancín.
Ajuste del juego de válvulas (motor frío)
Válvula de entrada ... 0,25 mm (0,0098 pulgadas)
Válvula de escape ... 0,25 mm (0,0098 pulgadas)
Si la medición no está dentro del espacio libre aceptable, es necesario realizar un ajuste.

El arranque accidental del motor puede causar lesiones o la
muerte al personal.
Para evitar el arranque accidental del motor, gire el interruptor
de encendido a la posición APAGADO y coloque una etiqueta de
no operar en la ubicación del interruptor de encendido.
Retire la tapa del mecanismo de la válvula y realice el siguiente procedimiento para
ajustar el juego de la válvula:
1. Rotate the crankshaft in the normal rotation of the engine. When the inlet valve of
the No. 4 cylinder has opened and the exhaust valve of the No. 4 cylinder has not
completely closed, measure the valve lash of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve
of No. 1 cylinder. If necessary, adjust the valve lash.
a. Loosen the valve adjustment screw locknut that is on adjustment screw (1).
b. Place the appropriate feeler gauge (2) between the rocker arm and the valve
stem. Turn adjustment screw (1) while the valve adjustment screw locknut is
being held from turning. Adjust the valve lash until the correct specification is
achieved.
c. After each adjustment, tighten the valve adjustment screw locknut to a torque
of 10 N·m (89 lb in) while adjustment screw (1) is being held from turning.
2. Rotate the crankshaft in the normal rotation of the engine. When the inlet valve of
the No. 2 cylinder has opened and the exhaust valve of the No. 2 cylinder has not
completely closed, measure the valve lash of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve
of No. 3 cylinder.
If adjustment is necessary, refer to Steps 1.a, 1.b and 1.c.
3. Rotate the crankshaft in the normal rotation of the engine. When the inlet valve of
the No. 1 cylinder has opened and the exhaust valve of the No. 1 cylinder has not
completely closed, measure the valve lash of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve
of No. 4 cylinder.
If adjustment is necessary, refer to Steps 1.a, 1.b and 1.c.
4. Rotate the crankshaft in the normal rotation of the engine. When the inlet valve of
the No. 3 cylinder has opened and the exhaust valve of the No. 3 cylinder has not
completely closed, measure the valve lash of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve

Note: Lubricate the rocker shaft assembly with clean engine oil after the valves have
been adjusted.
Lubricate the following components so that the oil will drain to lubricate the lobes of the
camshaft.
Bearing surfaces on the rocker shaft
Tips of the cylinder head valves
Pushrod sockets
Pushrods
