PAST PROGRESSIVE
OR
PAST CONTINOUS
El pasado progresivo ó pasado continuo se usa para describir una acción que
comenzó en el pasado, continuó durante un periodo de tiempo y ultimamente
terminó en el pasado.
EXAMPLES: Affirmative sentences
1. She was reading the newspaper in the living room when you arrived. (Ella estaba
leyendo el periódico en la sala cuando llegaste)
2. You were working very hard yesterday. (Tú estabas trabajando muy duro
ayer)
3. They were playing in the park. (Ellos estaban jugando en el parque)
4. She was doing the work of two people. (Ella estaba haciendo el trabajo de
dos personas)
5. He was speaking German. (Él estaba hablando alemán)
6. The plane was leaving the airport. (El avión estaba saliendo del aeropuerto)
7. He was playing in the park. (Él estaba jugando en el parque)
8. They were selling books there. (Ellos estaban vendiendo libros allí)
9. They were playing chess. (Ellos estaban jugando ajedrez)
10. The boy was crying because his toy is broken. (El niño estaba llorando porque su
juguete está roto)
EXAMPLES: Negative sentences
1. They weren’t waiting for you. (Ellos no te estaban esperando)
2. It wasn’t raining. (No estaba lloviendo)
3. He wasn’t sleeping. (Ella no estaba durmiendo)
4. She wasn’t cleaning the room. (Ella no estaba limpiando la habitación)
5. She wasn’t looking for the book which she lost. (Ella no estaba buscando el
libro que perdió)
6. He wasn’t taking a bath. (Él no se estaba bañando)
7. I wasn’t fixing the machine. (Yo no estaba arreglando la máquina)
8. We weren’t planning a party. (Nosotros no estábamos planeando una fiesta)
9. They weren’t eating in the restaurant on the corner. (Ellos no estaban comiendo
en el restaurante de la esquina)
10. She wasn’t traveling to Europe. (Ella no estaba viajando a Europa)
