El "ecuavoley" tiene su origen a partir de 1930, siendo Loja e Imbabura, las primeras
provincias en jugarlo. En la provincia de Imbabura el ecuavoley era practicado por
indígenas y mestizos, una vez culminadas las actividades diarias, la primera cancha de
esta provincia estuvo ubicada frente a la hacienda "Yacucalle". Los primeros campeonatos
de ecuavoley registrados, fueron realizados en 1950, en Quito y Otavalo, siendo los
primeros cantones del Ecuador en formar equipos, con la finalidad de disputar una copa,
haciendo competitivo al ecuavole, es un modo del voleibol creado en Ecuador. Se baraja la
posibilidad de que este deporte, o alguno parecido, se practicaba ya en el siglo XIX en
Ecuador. Pero lo cierto es que su andadura oficial comenzó a mediados del siglo XX en la
ciudad de Quito. De hecho fue en esta ciudad, junto con Cuenca, donde se desarrolló y
creó definitivamente esta nueva modalidad deportiva del voleibol. Luego, la práctica del
deporte se iría expandiendo por territorio ecuatoriano, gracias a las distintas migraciones,
llegando a ser conocido en la totalidad de Ecuador. Al inicio, fue considerado como el
deporte de los pobres y los taxistas, aunque, poco a poco, esto ha ido cambiando con la
totalidad
Reglas
Cada equipo tiene que está formado por tres jugadores: colocador, volador y servidor.
La red debe ser alta y estrecha.
Se puede jugar con balón de fútbol.
Se puede mantener la pelota en la mano por más de un segundo.
No se debe patear el balón.
Se debe que gritar "bola" antes de batir.
La batir los dos pies deben estén situados delante de la línea de servicio.
Se debe batir con una mano.
El balón no debe tocar la red al realizar el saque
La puntuación se divide en cambios y puntos
El saque se debe realiza desde la zona trasera de la cancha.
Se juega a 15 o 12 puntos en la sierra y a 12 o 10 puntos en costa, galápagos y amazonia,
debido al clima de las regiones. El número de jugadores en ecuavoley son 6, tres en cada
equipo sin cambios en partidos regulares llamados "apostados" y con dos o tres cambios en
campeonatos oficiales.
