LESSON Nº 07
PLURAL OF NOUNS
Para formar los plurales a la mayoría de los nombres se les agrega una “-s”
al final.
a Book/un Libro three Books/3 Libros
Pen → pens (lapicero/s)
House → houses (casa/s)
Car → cars (coche/s)
ADEMÁS, DEBEMOS TENER CUIDADO EN:
1. Palabras que terminan en consonante “y”. La “y” cambia a “i” y
añadimos “es”.
Ejemplos:
o City → cities (ciudad/es)
o Baby → babies (bebe/s)
o Country → countries (país/es)
o Party → parties (fiesta/s)
2. Palabras que terminan en vocal + “y”: añadimos una “s”.
Ejemplos:
Boy → boys (chico/s)
Toy → toys (juguete/s)
Day → days (día/s)
Key → keys (llave/s)
3. Palabras que terminan en “s”, “ss”, “sh”, “ch”, “x”, “o”: añadimos una
“es”.
Ejemplos:
Bus → buses (bus/es)
Glass → glasses (copa/s, Gafa, gafas)
Brush → brushes (cepillo/s)
Watch → watches (reloj/es)
Box → boxes (caja/s)
Tomato → tomatoes (tomate/s)

4. Palabras que terminan en “f” o “fe”: cambiamos la “f” o “fe” por “ves”.
Ejemplos:
Leaf → leaves (hoja/s)
Wife → wives (esposa/s)
Wolf → wolves (lobo/a, lobos)
IRREGULAR PLURAL NOUNS (PLURALES IRREGULARES)
Muchos sustantivos se pluralizan de un modo irregular. Existen dos casos:
1. Cuando el singular y plural no cambian.

Fish Pez o Pescado Fish/Fishes Peces o pescados
Sheep Oveja Sheep /Sheeps Ovejas
2. Cuando el plural varía de modo irregular. Por lo tanto, no existe regla la cual
se pueda seguir y hay que aprenderse las formas irregulares de cada uno.

COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
Los sustantivos en inglés pueden ser contables o incontables.
Los sustantivos contables son cosas que se pueden contar tienen
singular y plural
Los sustantivos incontables son cosas que no se pueden contar. Solo
tienen singular.
COUNTABLE PLURAL UNCOUNTABLE PLURAL

COUNTABLE NOUNS:
Con los sustantivos contables podemos usar.

Many= muchos, muchas,
How many?= cuantos?(as)

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS:
Con los sustantivos incontable usamos:
1. Palabras como: a piece, a cup, a spoon
2. Quantifiers: Much
how much? = Cuánto?
Questions Affirmative Negative
How much milk is there? There is some milk. There isn’t any milk
There is a little milk There isn’t much milk.
There is a lot of milk. There is no milk.

THE ADJECTIVES
Los adjetivos calificativos indican cualidades o características del sustantivo al
que modifican, pudiendo ser éstas concretas o abstractas.
Example: A big bottle, a difficult lesson.
Los adjetivos en inglés son invariables en género y número. No tienen femenino
ni masculino, tampoco singular ni plural.
La casa es bonita the house is nice
Las casas son bonitas the houses are nice
El carro es bonito the car is nice
Example: bad girl, bad boy, bad car, bad women, bad boys.
ORDEN DE LOS ADJETIVOS
Generalmente se colocan delante del sustantivo.
Example:
New computers.
Example:
These computers are new. Estas computadoras son nuevas
It is getting cold. Está comenzando a hacer frío
It looks interesting. Se ve interesante
Se pueden utilizar más de un adjetivo a la vez
Como norma general se suele usar el siguiente orden:

Aunque no se suelen usar más de tres adjetivos en una oración.

DAYS OF THE WEEK:
Utilizamos on delante del nombre de los días de la semana: el viernes es on
Friday. On también se pone para decir en plural. On Mondays – los lunes.
Hoy se dice today. Ayer es yesterday. Mañana es tomorrow
