Theme: Gerunds and Infinitives
Objective: conocer el uso del gerundio y los infinitivos para expresar sus ideas y pensamientos.
Esta guía de aprendizaje se debe desarrollar en el cuaderno y durante la fecha asignada. Asi mismo, se deben enviar las
evidencias al correo o WhatsApp de la docente. El vocabulario de la guía se puede consultar en diccionarios o libros de
inglés para su mayor comprensión. Finalmente, este taller se evaluara según la siguiente escala: BAJO, BASICO, ALTO y
SUPERIOR, la cual tendrá en cuenta: 1. Entrega y estado de la guía (Completa o incompleta), 2. Calidad y Claridad en las
actividades desarrolladas, 3. Presentación (orden y letra clara) 4. Responsabilidad.

En esta guía estudiaremos el uso del infinitivo y del gerundio. Empecemos con su explicación;

El infinitivo es la forma básica del verbo. Los infinitivos en inglés no tienen una terminación particular, como sí ocurre en
español. A veces van precedidos de la partícula to, dependiendo del verbo, adjetivo o sustantivo que lo siga; por ejemplo:
(to) be, (to) have, (to) do. Po ejemplo: I forgot to write you (olvide escribirte).

El gerundio se forma añadiendo -ing al infinitivo. Se trata de una forma no personal del verbo que en una oración
cumple la función de un sustantivo o nombre. Por ejemplo: Reading is fun (Leer es divertido).

REGLA:

Debemos tener en cuenta el siguiente listado para el uso de los gerundios e infinitivos, entonces, después de estos
verbos siempre ira un gerundio o un infinitivo. A memorizarlos.

Gerund - ing Infinitive with ‘to’

admit – agree –
He admits being a little rude with his mother. She agreed to go with me.
avoid – ask –
She avoids being alone. Mary asked me to wait.
can’t help – decide –
She couldn’t help crying. I decided to leave this party.
can’t stand – demand –
Tom can’t stand living here. He demanded to stop this conversation.
detest – deserve –
She detested going to school. Your mother deserves to take care of her.
enjoy – fail –
I enjoy swimming in the pool. He failed to pass his exams.
finish – forget –
She finished cooking. Mary forgot to take her keys yesterday.
go on (= continue) –
help –
Please, go on reading.
She helped her brother to do homework.
hate –
I hate being alone! hope –
imagine – I hope to buy a new dress.
