Multiple-Output to maximize throughput.
(MU-MIMO) technology

Feature Benefit

Flexible Radio Allows the access points to intelligently determine the operating mode of serving radios based on the RF
Assignment environment. The access points can operate in the following modes:
● 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz mode: One radio will serve clients in 2.4-GHz mode, while the other serves clients in 5-
GHz mode.
● Dual 5-GHz mode: Both radios inside the access point operate on the 5-GHz band, maximizing the benefits of
802.11ac Wave 2 and increasing client device capacity.
● Security Monitoring and 5-GHz mode, One radio will serve 5-GHz clients, while the other is scanning the full
spectrum for wIPS attackers, CleanAir interferers, and rogue devices.
Dual 5-GHz radio support Enables both radios to operate in 5-GHz client serving mode, allowing an industry-leading 5.2 Gbps (2 x 2.6 Gbps)
over-the-air speeds while increasing client capacity.
Smart antenna connector An intelligent second physical antenna connector is included on 2800 Series models with an external antenna. This
connector provides advanced network design flexibility for high-density and large open-area environments such as
auditoriums, convention centers, libraries, cafeterias, and arenas/stadiums, allowing two sets of antennas to be
connected and active on a single access point.
160-MHz channel support Supporting channels up to 160 MHz wide, Dynamic Bandwidth Selection allows the access point to dynamically
switch between 20-, 40-, 80-, and 160-MHz channels, depending on the RF channel conditions, providing the
industry’s best-performing wireless network.
Optimized access point Helps ensure that client devices associate with the access point in their coverage range that offers the fastest data
roaming rate available.
Zero Impact Application Uses dedicated hardware acceleration to improve the performance of line-speed applications such as Application
Visibility and Control* Visibility and Control.
Auto Link Aggregation 802.3ad (LACP) compliant, allowing both Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to automatically LAG, increasing overall
(LAG) support throughput to the access point.
ClientLink 4.0 Cisco ClientLink 4.0 technology to improve downlink performance to all mobile devices, including one-, two-, and
three-spatial-stream devices on 802.11a/b/g/n/ac while improving battery life on mobile devices such as
smartphones and tablets.
CleanAir 160 MHz* Cisco CleanAir technology, enhanced with 160-MHz channel support, provides proactive, high-speed spectrum
intelligence across 20-, 40-, 80-, or 160-MHz-wide channels to combat performance problems due to wireless
interference.
Cisco Mobility Express Flexible deployment mode through the Cisco Mobility Express Solution is ideal for medium-sized deployments and
can support up to 100 access points. Easy setup allows the 2800 Series Access Points to be deployed on networks
without a physical controller.

*
Available in a future release.

802.11 ac Wave 2 and beyond

The Aironet 2800 Series extends 802.11ac speed and features to a new generation
of smartphones, tablets, and high-performance laptops, providing a greater end-
user experience. Whether your project involves wholesale changes to your current
wireless network or upgrading your legacy Wi-Fi deployments (802.11a/b/g/n/ac
wave 1 deployments), the 2800 Series can handle the job.

The 2800 Series supports 802.11ac Wave 2, providing a theoretical connection rate
of up to 5.2 Gbps—that’s roughly 4x the rates offered by today’s high-end 802.11ac
access points. The boost helps you stay ahead of the performance and bandwidth
expectations of today’s mobile worker, who usually uses multiple Wi-Fi devices
instead of just one. As such, users are adding proportionally larger traffic loads to
the wireless LAN, which has outpaced Ethernet as the default enterprise access
network.
Cisco DNA support
Pairing the 2800 Series access points with the Cisco Digital Network Architecture
(Cisco DNA™) allows for a total network transformation. Cisco DNA allows you to truly
understand your network with real-time analytics, quickly detect and contain security
threats, and easily provide networkwide consistency through automation and
virtualization. By decoupling network functions from the hardware, you can build and
manage your entire wired and wireless network from a single user interface.

Working together, the 2800 Series and DNA offer such features as:

● Flexible Radio Assignment

● Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences
● Cisco High Density Experience
● Apple FastLane
● Cisco Identity Services Engine
● And much more

The result? Your network stays relevant, becomes digital-ready, and is the lifeblood of
your organization.

High-density experience
Building on the Cisco Aironet heritage of RF excellence, the 2800 Series access
points run on a purpose-built, innovative chipset with a best-in-class RF
architecture. This chipset provides a high-density experience for enterprise networks
designed for mission-critical, high-performance applications.

The 2800 Series is a component of Cisco’s portfolio of flagship, 802.11ac-enabled

access points, and delivers a robust mobility experience based on the following
product features:
● 802.11ac Wave 2 with 4x4 Multiuser Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) technology supporting three
spatial streams. MU-MIMO enables access points to split spatial streams between client devices to
maximize throughput.

With two radios built into each access point, the 2800 Series is more versatile than
any access point currently on the market. These radios are outfitted with Flexible
Radio Assignment, which means that the access points automatically self-optimize to
better serve the environment. For example, one of the radios broadcasts its signal on
the 5-GHz channel and the other sends out a 2.4-GHz signal. The access point
understands the wireless environment and will automatically switch the 2.4-GHz signal
to a 5-GHz signal, increasing the reliability of your Wi- Fi use. This setting
automatically works in reverse too, the access point recognizes that the RF
environment has changed as reverts changes back to its original configuration.

The access point also dynamically changes the radio settings based on the wireless
environment. The 2800 Series Wave 2 access point will allow one of the radios to
operate in Wireless Security Monitoring mode. Allowing you to detect wireless security
threats, interference, and combat rogue access. This valuable information can be
Page 25 of 11

The Cisco Firepower 9300 is a scalable (beyond 1 Tbps when clustered), carrier-grade,
modular platform designed for service providers, high-performance computing centers, large
data centers, campuses, high-frequency trading environments, and other environments that
require low (less than 5-microsecond offload) latency and exceptional throughput. Cisco
Firepower 9300 supports flow-offloading, programmatic orchestration, and the management
of security services with RESTful APIs. It is also available in Network Equipment Building
Standards (NEBS)-compliant configurations.

Cisco ASA 5500-FTD-X Series Appliances

The Cisco ASA 5500-FTD-X Series is a family of eight threat-focused NGFW security
platforms. Their throughput range addresses use cases from the small or branch office to
the Internet edge. They deliver superior threat defense in a cost- effective footprint.

Cisco Firepower NGFW Virtual (NGFWv) Appliances

Cisco Firepower NGFWv is available on VMware, KVM, and the Amazon Web Services
(AWS) and Microsoft Azure environments for virtual, public, private, and hybrid cloud
environments. Organizations employing SDN can rapidly provision and orchestrate
flexible network protection with Firepower NGFWv. As well, organizations using NFV can
further lower costs utilizing Firepower NGFWv.

Performance Testing Methodologies

Cisco uses a variety of testing methodologies in a lab environment to ensure the performance
specifications we report are as close to real world as possible. Firewall performance is
Page 39 of 24
affected by many factors including network environment, packet sizes, packet type, TLS
encryption, and more.
Two modes of firewall testing exist: static or real world. Static testing leverages performance
and security testing tools in a simulated environment. Real-world testing uses samples of live
traffic on a production or side-car network. While static testing does not completely mimic
performance in a real-world networking environment, we review and modify the static
methodology to ensure the results are as close to real-world as possible.
The following are test methodologies used for measurements listed in Table 1. Small packet
size tests will reflect additional inspection overhead thus results in reduced firewall
throughput. The reduction is not linear, so extrapolation from a single test is not possible for
the almost unlimited variety of network environments. Testing security efficacy or

security service performance under loaded conditions adds even more complexity. For these
reasons we rely on the 1024B HTTP Test.

1024B HTTP Test (256KB Object)

This number is to compare with other vendors at a 256KB object size. It uses a larger and
commonly tested packet size for every simulated session. With the protocol overhead, the
average frame size is around 1024 bytes. This represents typical production conditions for
most firewall deployments.

1500B UDP
This test uses a transactional UDP profile with 1500-byte frames. Due to the stateless nature
of UDP, it creates very little impact on a stateful NGFW. Many vendors use this profile to
measure maximum firewall performance, but it is only practical as a comparison point and
does not represent world conditions.

TLS
This test follows the 1024B HTTP test conditions with 50% of sessions encapsulated into TLS
(HTTPS) and fully decrypted for inspection in hardware. Client TLS sessions use AES256-
SHA cipher with 2048-bit RSA keys, and the server is assumed to reside behind the NGFW for
Known Key decryption. These test results can be linearly extrapolated for other percentages of
TLS traffic; for example, the NGFW throughput will be approximately twice as high with 25% of
HTTPS connections in the overall traffic mix.

Cisco Trust Anchor Technologies
Cisco Trust Anchor Technologies provide a highly secure foundation for certain Cisco products.
They enable hardware and software authenticity assurance for supply chain trust and strong
mitigation against a man-in-the-middle compromise of software and firmware.
Trust Anchor capabilities include:
● Image signing: Cryptographically signed images provide assurance that the firmware, BIOS, and other
software are authentic and unmodified. As the system boots, the system’s software signatures are
checked for integrity.
● Secure Boot: Secure Boot anchors the boot sequence chain of trust to immutable hardware, mitigating threats
against a system’s foundational state and the software that is to be loaded, regardless
of a user’s privilege level. It provides layered protection against the persistence of
illicitly modified firmware.
● Trust Anchor module: A tamper-resistant, strong-cryptographic, single-chip solution provides
hardware authenticity assurance to uniquely identify the product so that its origin can be confirmed
to Cisco, providing assurance that the product is genuine.

Platform Resiliency

Power Supplies
Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches support dual field-replaceable power supplies (Figure 3).
Each switch ships with one default power supply, and a second identical power supply can be
purchased with the initial order or can be added at a later time. The second power supply can
provide redundancy or additional power to PoE+ ports as needed.

Intelligent PoE+
● IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (up to 30W per port) is supported on Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches to lower
the total cost of ownership for deployments that incorporate Cisco IP phones, Cisco Aironet ® wireless
access points, or other standards-compliant PoE+ end devices. PoE+ removes the need to supply wall
power to PoE-enabled devices and eliminates the cost of adding electrical cabling and circuits that would
otherwise be necessary in IP phone and WLAN deployments. With Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches,
PoE+ power allocation is dynamic, and power mapping scales up to a maximum of 1440W of PoE+
power.
● Perpetual PoE is supported on Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches, and maintains the PoE+ power
during a switch reload. This is important for critical endpoints such as medical devices and for Internet of
Things (IoT) endpoints such as PoE-powered lights, so that there is no disruption during a switch reboot.
● Fast PoE: When power is restored to a switch, Fast PoE starts delivering power to endpoints without
waiting for the operating system to fully load, thereby speeding up the time for the endpoint to start up.

switches. It supports a wide range of automation features and provides robust open APIs over NETCONF
and RESTCONF using YANG data models for external tools, both off the shelf and custom built, to
automatically provision network resources.
● Granular visibility enables model-driven telemetry to stream data from a switch to a destination. The
data to be streamed is identified through subscription to a data set in a YANG model. The subscribed data
set is streamed to the destination at specified intervals. Additionally, Cisco IOS XE enables the push
model. It provides near-real-time monitoring of the network, leading to quick detection and rectification of
failures.
● Seamless software upgrades and patching supports OS resilience. On Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series
switches Cisco IOS XE supports cold patching with reboot, which provides fixes for critical bugs and
security vulnerabilities between regular maintenance releases. This support lets you add patches without
having to wait for the next maintenance release. Cold patching requires the switch to be rebooted after
patching to allow the changes to take effect.
● Trustworthy solutions built with Cisco Trust Anchor Technologies provide a highly secure foundation
for Cisco products. With Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches, these technologies enable hardware and
software authenticity assurance for supply chain trust and strong mitigation against man-in-the-middle
attacks that compromise software and firmware. Trust Anchor capabilities include image signing, Secure
Boot, and Cisco Trust Anchor module.
● High availability: Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches support high-availability features, including the following:
◦ Cross-stack EtherChannel provides the ability to configure Cisco EtherChannel technology across different
members of the stack for high resiliency.
◦ IEEE 802.1S Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) provides rapid spanning tree convergence
independent of spanning tree timers and also offers the benefit of Layer 2 load balancing and
distributed processing.
◦ Per-VLAN Rapid Spanning Tree (PVRST+) allows rapid spanning tree (IEEE 802.1W ) reconvergence on
a per-VLAN spanning tree basis, providing simpler configuration than MSTP. In both MSTP and PVRST+
modes, stacked units behave as a single spanning tree node.
◦ Switch-port auto-recovery (“err-disable” recovery) automatically attempts to reactivate a link that is
disabled because of a network error.

Full Flexible NetFlow

● Full Flexible NetFlow (FNF): Cisco IOS FNF is the next generation in flow visibility technology. It
enables optimization of the network infrastructure, reduces operation costs, and improves capacity
planning and security incident detection with increased flexibility and scalability. Catalyst 9200 Series
switches are capable of up to 16,000 flow entries on 48-port and 24 port models.

QoS
● Superior QoS: Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches offer Gigabit Ethernet speeds with intelligent
services that keep traffic flowing smoothly, even at 10 times the normal network speed. Industry-leading
mechanisms for cross- stack marking, classification, and scheduling deliver superior performance for
data, voice, and video traffic at wire speed. Superior QoS includes granular wireless bandwidth
management and fair sharing, 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) and Differentiated Services Code Point
(DSCP) field classification, Shaped Round Robin (SRR) scheduling, Committed Information Rate (CIR),
and eight egress queues per port.

Smart Operation
● WebUI:
WebUI is an embedded GUI-based device-management tool that provides the ability
to provision the device, to simplify device deployment and manageability, and to
enhance the user experience. It comes with the default image, so there is no need to
enable anything or install any license on the device. You can use WebUI to build
configurations, and to monitor and troubleshoot the device without having CLI
expertise.
● RFID tags:
Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches have an embedded RFID tag that facilitates
easy asset and inventory management using commercial RFID readers.
● Blue beacon:
Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches support both front and back blue beacon LEDs for
easy identification of the switch being accessed.
● Efficient switch operation*:
Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches provide optimum power saving with Energy Efficient
Ethernet (EEE) on the RJ- 45 ports and low-power operations for industry best-in-class
power management and power consumption capabilities. The ports support reduced
power modes so that ports not in use can move into a lower power utilization state. Other
efficient switch operation features are as follows:
◦ Per-port power consumption command allows customers to specify a maximum power setting on an individual
port.
◦ Per-port PoE power sensing measures actual power being drawn, enabling more intelligent control of
powered devices. The PoE MIB provides proactive visibility into power usage and allows you to set
different power-level thresholds.

● Bluetooth ready:
Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches have hardware support to connect a Bluetooth
dongle to your switch, enabling you to use this wireless interface as an IP management
port interface. The port can be used for configuration and troubleshooting using WebUI
or the Command-Line Interface (CLI), and to transfer images and configurations.

High-Performance IP Routing
The Cisco Express Forwarding hardware routing architecture delivers extremely high-
performance IP routing in Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches, based on:
● IP unicast routing protocols (including static, Routing Information Protocol Version 1 [RIPV1], RIPv2,
RIPng, and Open Shortest Path First [OSPF], Routed Access) are supported for small network routing
applications with the Network Essentials stack. Equal-cost routing facilitates Layer 3 load balancing and
redundancy across the stack.
● Advanced IP unicast routing protocols (including Full [OSPF], Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing
Protocol [EIGRP], and Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System Version 4 [IS-ISv4]) are supported

Packaging: Network and Cisco DNA Licensing

The Cisco Catalyst 9000 family of switches introduces a new and simplified licensing package
in the form of base and add- on licenses.
● The base licensing package includes the Network Essentials and Network Advantage licensing
options that are tied to the hardware. Between them, the base licensing packages cover switching
fundamentals, management automation, troubleshooting, and advanced switching features. These
base licenses are perpetual.
● The add-on licensing package includes the Cisco DNA Premier, Cisco DNA Advantage and Cisco
DNA Essentials options. In addition to on-box capabilities, the features available with this package
provide Cisco innovations on the switch, as well as on Cisco DNA Center. The Cisco DNA add-on
licenses are available as a subscription.

License consumption is easily determined by the package itself. While base licenses are
always permanent and without an expiration date, add-on licenses have to be purchased for
a 3, 5, or 7 year term (and hence are also known as term- based licenses). Table 9 shows
the combinations of base and add-on licenses that must be purchased.

Cisco DNA Premier Subscription

Cisco DNA Premier subscriptions offer a flexible way to buy software for the access, WAN,
and data center domains. At each stage in the product lifecycle, Cisco DNA Premier
subscriptions help make buying, managing, and upgrading your network and infrastructure
software easier. Cisco DNA Premier subscriptions provide:
● Flexible licensing models to smoothly distribute customers’ software spending over time
● Investment protection for software purchases through software services–enabled license portability
● Lower cost of entry with the new Cisco DNA Premier Subscription for Switching model

Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series switches run on Cisco IOS XE Release 16.9.2 or later. This
software release includes all the features listed earlier in the Platform Software Benefits
section.
Managing licenses with Smart Accounts: Creating Smart Accounts by using the Cisco
Smart Software Manager (Cisco SSM) enables you to order devices and licensing packages
and also manage your software licenses from a centralized website. You can set up Cisco
SSM to receive daily email alerts and to be notified of expiring add-on licenses that you
want to renew.
You must order an add-on license in order to purchase a switch. When the license term
expires, you can either renew the add-on license to continue using it or deactivate the add-on
license and then reload the switch to continue operating with the base license capabilities.
Both the base and add-on licenses are also available for a 90-day evaluation period. An
evaluation license is activated temporarily, without purchase. An expired evaluation
license cannot be reactivated after reload.
Note: It is not required to deploy Cisco DNA Center, just to use one of the above packages.

● The Cisco ASR 9000 System brings increased power and simplicity to the edge, and the ASR 9000v sets
the industry benchmark as a virtualized compact carrier-class converged access and aggregation platform.
Using the Cisco “network virtualization” or nV technology, the Cisco ASR 9000 System offers exceptional
pay-as-you-grow scale, carrier-class reliability, and simplified service provisioning.
● Cisco IOS XR Software modular operating system: The Cisco ASR 9000 Series uses the Cisco IOS XR
operating system, made famous bythe highly successful Cisco CRS Carrier Routing System platform in
core deployments. Built for distributed systems such as the Cisco ASR 9000 Series, the Cisco IOS XR
operating system uses a microkernel architecture to achieve true modularity. This modularity provides the
path to nonstop operations during software image upgrades or module changes, without affecting normal
platform operations .

● Fully distributed system: The Cisco ASR 9000 Series operates in a fully distributed fashion; all packet -
forwarding decisions and actions take place on the individual line cards. These high -density Ethernet line
cards are equipped with a specialized network processor that provides a flexible programming infrastructure
with high-density Hierarchical Quality-of-Service (H-QoS) services, security, and integrated Synchronous
Ethernet (SyncE). The distributed nature of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series improves resilie ncy by adding a new
dimension in scale for features such as Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) and Ethernet Operations,
Administration, and Maintenance (EOAM).
● Operationally efficient and redundant hardware: The Cisco ASR 9000 Series provides an infrastructure
where all common components, Route Switch Processors (RSPs), Route Processors (RPs), switching
fabric, fans and power supplies are redundant. In addition, the platform is designed to use power on an as -
needed basis, depending on system requirements. Power has been modularized for a true pay-as-you-grow
approach, reducing Capital Expenditures (CapEx) and providing an operationally efficient deployment. The
Cisco ASR 9000 Series also provides a space-optimized small-platform option that uses the common
components of the series and retains a central-office deployment-ready capability.
● Environmentally conscious design: In today’s world of increasing awareness of human impact on the
environment and the resultant fiscal implications, Cisco ASR 9000 Seri es Routers bring a fresh new
“conscious” approach to product development. From optimal thermal design to the architecture of the power
infrastructure, from the placement of line-card components to the pitch of each slot, every design aspect
has one goal in mind: reduced environmental impact through lowered power consumption and decreased
cooling requirements. Even the product packaging process was evaluated to minimize the use of packaging
material and thereby reduce waste at customer locations. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series is an example of the
continued Cisco commitment to efficient and future-friendly product design.
● Ready for the transition to IPv6: Cisco is delivering on our strategy of building out IPv6 next-generation
networks to simplifydesign, deployment, and management of services for global service providers. The
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Virtualized Service Module (VSM) provides a single touch point for carrier -grade
IPv6 deployment across thousands of devices.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series offers a significant added value compared to the prior
generations of Carrier Ethernet routing offerings with significantly higher switching
capacity, optimized power and cooling requirements, an innovative modular power
architecture, a grounds -up high-availabilitydesign, and the Cisco IOS XR modular
operating system to significantly lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for service
providers the world over.

Solving the Challenges of Tomorrow, Today

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series is built on the premise of addressing the chal lenges that
service providers face when deploying current networks and planning for the networks
of tomorrow:
● Power-efficient deployments: The Cisco ASR 9000 Series has a significantly improved energy-efficient
design thanks to its low Gbps/Watt ratio. This amazing breakthrough ultimatelytranslates to lower power
costs, lower carbon footprint, and the ability to serve more customers and deliver more services in less
rack space.
● Increasing Average Revenue Per User (ARPU): Service providers may increase the price models of existing
services or increase the service offerings per user. Although traditional service prices continue to decline,
the Cisco ASR 9000 Series helps establish a new financial reality by facilitating reliable and scalable video,
next-generation mobile aggregation, and advanced Carrier Ethernet service offerings.

● Managing services efficiently: The Cisco ASR 9000 Series provides leading-edge network, device, and
service management through a full complement of management solutions. The Cisco Prime for Evolved
Programmable Networks provides a framework for service-activation provisioning, assurance, and
management. Combining these elements with a comprehensive set of
Ethernet and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Operations,
Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities, the Cisco ASR 9000
Series provides an operator-friendly environment.
● Network convergence: A common objective among service providers is to migrate their networks to a single,
converged infrastructure that supports all services. This goal is compelling because it ultimately results in
decreased CapEx and Operating Expenses (OpEx) because of a reduction in network elements. The Cisco
ASR 9000 Series is a critical component in optimizing service -transport infrastructure because of its service
flexibility, comprehensive feature set, wide interface capability, and transparent integration of Carrier
Ethernet and WAN interfaces as the foundation for services delivery. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series provides
a powerful single solution to the providers’ MultiService Edge (MSE), Ethernet-optimized MSE (E-MSE),
and Carrier Ethernet needs.
● Meeting tomorrow’s service requirements: Designed into the Cisco ASR 9000 Series are critical capabilities
supporting the services of tomorrow. Providing increased bandwidth capabilities for network devices at
economically viable prices is one of the primary criteria for true carrier transport platforms. The Cisco ASR
9000 Series can scale to unprecidented levels, providing the ideal foundation for a full suite of next-
generation services. Another crucial component for true network and service convergence is the integration
of service intelligence in network elements. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series is designed to offer advanced
subscriber management using silicon-based security and video services. The
Cisco ASR 9000 Series offers integrated Video-on-Demand (VoD) streaming and
caching, inline video-qualitymonitoring, accelerated fast- channel change, and real-
time video error correction.

Hardware
The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers provide unsurpassed 10
Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet scale and density. The Cisco ASR 9000
and ASR 9900 Series Routers provide an in -place upgrade roadmap to a higher
density of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports without the need for a
complete chassis replacement. These line cards, offered in base and extended-scale
configurations, are
complemented bythe nonblocking fabric (on the RSP for the Cisco ASR 9006, ASR
9010, ASR 9906, ASR 9910 and ASR 9904 Routers and on separate fabric cards for
the Cisco ASR 9906, ASR 9910, ASR 9912 and ASR 9922 Routers), and by the
innovative backplane, thermal, and power infrastructure on the chassis.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series has a modular power architecture available in both AC
Page 6 of 16
and DC. The power supplies are housed in field-serviceable Power Entry Modules
(PEMs), which also come in AC and DC forms. Each PEM can hold up to three or
four modules depending on its corresponding type, with no power zones or placeme
nt restrictions (mixing of AC and DC supplies is not supported). Service providers can
add more power as their bandwidth and feature requirements increase over time, by
adding more line cards to the chassis. This capability translates to lower CapEx
initiallyand optimal OpEx over the product life.

The Cisco ASR 9000 Series also features a fully integrated timing infrastructure,
allowing the routers to take in timing inputs (for example, SynchE, Building Integrated
Timing Supply [BITS], and DOCSIS ® Timing Interface
[DTI]) and distribute them over the backplane to each slot. This capability allows
extensive support for transparent
mobile convergence, mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) backhaul, and Time-Division
Multiplexing (TDM) circuit emulation, without sacrificing performance or scale.

The optimized thermal infrastructure of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series is designed to
be scalable to support future capacity requirements. Variable-speed high-efficiency
fans provide reduced power requirements under normal operating environments
while retaining the capability to cool current and future line cards under extreme
conditions.
