PREPOSITIONS OF LOCATION
Las preposiciones de lugar se colocan detrás del verbo principal, que suele ser
el verbo “to be” (estar, ser) en cualquiera de los tiempos, pasados, presentes
o futuros y en sus formas tanto simples como compuestas.
in, on, under, in front of, behind, between, next to, across from
IN : Significa dentro de o en
The ring is in my pocket. / El anillo está en mi
bolsillo.
Se utiliza con espacios físicos cerrados: in a garden,
in a box, in a store.
The cat is in the box. /El gato está en la caja
No se usa para expresiones como en la pared, en el techo, etc
ON : Significa sobre o encima de.
The phone is on the bed. / El teléfono está sobre la cama.
Se utiliza en relación con superficies: on the floor, on
the balcony,on the box.
Esta preposición también se usa para expresiones como
en la pared (on the wall) y en el techo (on ceiling).
The new painting is on the wall. / El cuadro nuevo
está en (sobre) la pared.
The bird is on the box. / El pájaro entra sobrela
caja.
NEXT TO (BESIDE)
: Significa al lado de.
My house is next (beside) to a big library. / Mi
casa está al lado de una biblioteca grande.
The supermarket is next to (beside) the bank.
(El supermercado está al lado del banco.)
The cat is next to (beside) the box.

BETWEEN : Significa en medio
de o entre.
The police station is between the bank
and the church. / La estación de policía
está entre el banco y la iglesia
She is between Peter and John.(Ella está
entre Pedro y Juan.)
The bird is between the boxes.
BEHIND : Significa detrás de o atrás de.
o The lamps are behind the curtain. / Las
lamparas están detrás de la cortina.
o The church is behind the school.(La iglesia
está detrás de la escuela.)
o The cat is behind the box
IN FRONT OF : Significa en frente de o
delante de.
My brother is in front of the TV. / Mi
hermano está frente al televisor.
The hotel is in front of the station. (El
hotel está en frente de la estación.)
The cat is in front of the box
UNDER : Significa debajo de.
There is a nice restaurant under that
bridge. / Hay un buen restaurante debajo de
ese puente.
The ball is under the chair.(La pelota está
debajo de la silla.)
The dog is under the tree.(El perro está
debajo del árbol.)

ABOVE
