El método de la pendiente deflexión para el análisis de vigas indeterminadas lo
presentó George A. Maney en 1915. Tomó solo en cuenta las deformaciones por
flexión de estructuras a pesar que se considera actualmente una herramienta útil
para el análisis de vigas y marcos indeterminados.
La comprensión de los fundamentos de este método nos proporcionará una
introducción invaluable al método matricial de las rigideces, el cual forma la base
de las mayoría de los programas de computo en el análisis estructural.
Se desarrollará las relaciones fundamentales para la aplicación del método a vigas
continuas, marcos con traslaciones restringidas en los nodos y el análisis de
marcos con nodos que se desplazan (ESTRUCTURAS HIPERESTÁTICAS)

Cuando una estructura esta cargada, los puntos especificados sobre ella, llamados
nodos, experimentan desplazamientos desconocidos. A estos desplazamientos se les
llama grados de libertad para la estructura.
Es de suma importancia especificar correctamente los grados de libertad puesto que se
convierten en las incógnitas al aplicar el método.
El número de estas incógnitas se conoce como el grado en que la estructura es
cinemáticamente indeterminada.
Para conocer la indeterminación cinemática se considera que la estructura consiste en
una serie de elementos conectados a los nodos a través de juntas, soportes o extremos
de un elemento, o cuando este experimenta un cambio repentino en su sección
transversal
