Reggae es un término inglés que permite nombrar un estilo musical que se originó en

Jamaica durante la década de 1960. Es un género que derivó del rocksteady y del ska y
que tiene como principal característica la repetición constante de su ritmo.

Uno de los grupos pioneros del reggae fue The Wailers, fundado en 1963 y con miembros
famosos como Peter Tosh y Bob Marley. Este último es el mayor icono del reggae y de la
música jamaiquina en general. Fallecido en 1981, Marley inmortalizó temas de reggae
como “No woman, no cry”, “Lively up yourself” y “Three little birds”, entre muchos otros.

El 1 de Julio, el Día Internacional del Reggae, se celebra en todo el globo, y


especialmente en Jamaica que se activan con un festival que rinde homenaje a los
artistas nacionales e internacionales que fueron protagonistas del género y lo llevaron a
todas partes del mundo.

Reggae is an English term that allows to name a musical style that originated in Jamaica
during the 1960s. It is a genre that derived from rocksteady and ska and whose main
characteristic is the constant repetition of its rhythm.

One of the pioneer groups of reggae was The Wailers, founded in 1963 and with famous
members such as Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. The latter is the greatest icon of reggae
and Jamaican music in general. Deceased in 1981, Marley immortalized reggae themes
such as "No woman, no cry", "Lively up yourself" and "Three little birds", among many
others.

On July 1, International Reggae Day is celebrated all over the globe, and especially in
Jamaica, which is activated with a festival that pays homage to the national and
international artists who were protagonists of the genre and took it to all parts of the world.
