-Pueblo de palabra, corazón y pensamiento
Cherán, único municipio con autogobierno en México
El artículo hace un recuento del levantamiento social en armas acaecido el 15 de abril del
2011 en el municipio indígena (p’urhépecha) de Cherán, en el Estado de Michoacán, en
México. A través del texto el lector puede percatarse de los siguientes tópicos:
a) Génesis del levantamiento armado: propiciado por la devastación de sus bosques
debido la tala clandestina, lo anterior gracias al contubernio de la autoridad
municipal con el crimen organizado y la nula acción del gobierno Estatal y Federal.
b) Vida en el municipio dentro del atrincheramiento: se explica la manera en que los
pobladores se organizaron para no permitir el acceso de personas desconocidas a su
población y a la vez la forma en que expulsaron a sus “autoridades” para que fuesen
los mismos habitantes quienes repelieran los ataques armados de los delincuentes:
así pasaron un año completo.
c) La institución de su autogobierno sustentado en usos y costumbres: elección
democrática de un Concejo Mayor que los representara y la pugna en los tribunales
hasta conseguir el reconocimiento de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación
como gobierno autónomo.

material fotográfico del cual podrían disponer para ilustrar las páginas.
