ACCION QUE SE REALIZO EN TIEMPO ANTERIOR.
Introducción:
Este otro tiempo verbal nos permite saber sobre hechos o situaciones que ocurrieron en el pasado, pero
que no habían terminado de realizarse para dicho momento.
Reconocer un verbo que se encuentra conjugado en un tiempo continuo es muy simple, pues posee la
terminación "-ing". Esta terminación se reconoce en español como los gerundios "-ando" y "-endo".
Para conjugar correctamente un verbo en tiempo pasado continuo, además de conjugar el verbo
principal con "-ing", es necesario utilizar la ayuda de los verbos auxiliares was y were, que son el pasado
del verbo to be.
Al igual que los demás tiempos verbales, el pasado continuo tiene tres formas de presentarse en una
oración. Estas son:
Affirmative form / Forma afirmativa
Debemos tener en cuenta que el verbo principal nunca estará en su forma infinitiva, puesto que al
conjugarse con el gerundio indica que la acción continuaba realizándose para el momento en el cual se
está mencionando, por ejemplo:
La oración anterior nos indica que habían personas quienes estaban nadando en algún momento del
pasado y que en el momento en que se mencionó lo que hacían, nadar, la acción aún no finalizaba.
Negative form / Forma negativa
Para formar una oración negativa en este tiempo verbal, basta con agregar el auxiliar negativo a la
oración y ubicarlo entre el verbo auxiliar y el verbo principal.
Ejemplo de oración negativa en pasado continuo.
Puedes abreviar el verbo auxiliar con el auxiliar negativo de la siguiente manera:
Were + Not = Weren't Was + Not = Wasn't
Ten en cuenta que la comilla siempre va entre la n y la t.
Interrogative form / Forma interrogativa
Para esta forma es necesario ubicar el verbo auxiliar al inicio de la oración. Este verbo puede ir de forma
afirmativa o negativa, según sea el sentido de lo que queremos expresar, por ejemplo:
REGLAS 1. Verbos que terminan en vocal “e”: A estos verbos, para convertirlos en
presente continuo, se elimina la “e” final del verbo y se le añade _ing como en el
ejemplo siguiente: Write-------Writing Make------Making Take------- Taking Taste------
Tasting
2. Verbos que terminan en consonante incluyendo “Y”: A este tipo de verbos solamente
se añade la _ing al final. Ejemplos: Play-------------Playing Study-----------Studying
3. Verbos que tienen una sola sílaba y que terminan en vocal- consonante-vocal: La
regla para este tipo de verbos dice que se dobla la consonante final y se añade _ing
para formar el participio presente Ejemplo: Stop---------- Stopping Cut----------- Cutting
4. Los verbos que no cumplan estas reglas simplemente se le agrega ing. Ejemplo: eat-
eating. Read-reading.
