13 Ways to Say Hello
Listen to the following examples of more formal ways to say hello to someone, and repeat the words in the pauses
provided:

Now we’re going to teach you a few more informal and colloquial ways to say hello.

• G'day(Australian, you will not hear this in the UK)
• Yo! (Estados Unidos)
• Wassup?! (What's up?)
• Alright!

Starting a Conversation / Empezar una conversación
The greetings can all be followed by a question asking how someone is. For example:
Los saludos pueden estar seguidos por una pregunta acerca decómo está la otra persona. Por ejemplo:
• How are you?
• How’s things? (How are things?)
• How’s it going?
• How’ve you been? (How have you been?)
• What’ve you been up to? (What have you been up to?)
• What's happening? (INFORMAL)
• What’s new? (INFORMAL)
• How’s it hanging? (VERY INFORMAL. Literalmente “¿Cómo está colgando?”)
Or you might just decide to use one of these expressions after greeting someone:

• Nice to see you!
• Nice to see you too!
• It’s been a while! (…since we’ve seen each other)
• Long time no see! (When it’s been a long time since you last saw someone)
Saying Goodbye to Someone /Despedirse de alguien
When someone says goodbye to someone in English, this is also known as a “farewell” (una despedida). First the
more formal expressions – repeat the expressions in the pauses provided.
Cuando la gente se despide en inglés, también es conocido como “a farewell” (una despedida). Primero escucha las

• Bye! (or Bye Bye!)
• See you later
