ARTICLES: a, an, the
Se corresponden con los artículos españoles un, una (a/an) y el, la los, las (the).
Utilizamos a en singular, delante de palabras que empiezan por consonante: a table (una mesa), a dog (un perro)
Utilizamos an en singular, delante de palabras que empiezan por vocal: an apple (una manzana), an armchair (un
sofá)
The es el artículo determinado. Como en español, en inglés lo utilizamos para precisar un objeto del que ya veníamos
hablando: the rubber is blue (el borrador es azul), the green one (el verde). “The” se utiliza tanto en plural como en
singular y acompaña a sustantivos masculinos y femeninos.
QUANTIFIERS
any, some
Ambos se utilizan con nombres contables e incontables.
Some significa algo de, alguno, algunos, alguna, algunas... Se utiliza para
las oraciones afirmativas: I’ve got some money
cuando ofrecemos cosas: Would you like some coffe?
cuando pedimos algo: Can I have some soup?, Can you lend me some money?
Any significa nada de, ninguno, ninguna. Se utiliza en
las oraciones negativas: I haven’t got any money (otra forma de hacer la negación es
I have no money. La diferencia es la forma del verbo: con any el verbo incluye la partícula de negación, con
no el verbo va en forma afirmativa.)
en las oraciones interrogativas (excepto los ejemplos vistos arriba): Do you have any pencil sharpener?
Normalmente some y any acompañan a un nombre, pero este puede omitirse.
Are there any biscuits in the kitchen? No, there aren’t any / Yes, there are some.
I’ve just made some coffee, would you like some?
Some, any and no también se utilizan para hablar de personas y cosas no definidas (somebody, someone, something)
que actúan como sujeto o complemento:
She said something
I saw somebody/someone/nobody/no-one
She didn’t say anything/ She said nothing/something
Has anybody seen Anna?
Y para hablar de lugares no definidos: somewhere (en algún sitio), anywhere (en cualquier sitio), nowhere
(ningún sitio).

Little, a little, few, a few
(significa algo, algunos, poco o casi nada; tiene un significado negativo)
Little se utiliza para nombres incontables: I have little money left (tengo poco dinero, me queda poco dinero,
casi nada, no es suficiente para comprar nada)
She saves a little money every month (Ella ahorra un poco de dinero cada mes)
Few se utiliza para nombres contables: She has few moments on her own (Ella tiene pocos momentos para
estar sola)
All she wanted was a few moments on her own (Todo lo que ella quiere son algunos -o unos pocos-
momentos para estar sola). En lugar de a few también podemos utilizar several (varios). I have several cook
books at home.
None
"None" se puede utilizar sin ir acompañado de un nombre, contable o incontable. Por tanto, acostumbra a ir al final
de la frase y como única respuesta a una pregunta que haga referencia a cantidades. ‘How much time do you have?
None’.

Much, a lot of, a lot (uncountable nouns) mucho: I have much/a lot of money

Too much demasiado (uncountable singular nouns): There is too much noise in big cities
Too many demasiados (countable plural nouns): There were too many people at the party

Every (todos) Every day = todos los días; Everyday = diario (adjetivo)
Each (cada uno de ellos) Each of them has his own car
Both (ambos, los dos) Both of them have their own house
Several (varios) equivale a a few. I have several sharpeners.
Rather /quite + adjective This tea is rather/quite good (este té es bastante bueno)
