With the purpose of providing a better service, the Port of Al-
tamira has focused on implementing a Quality and Environ-
mental Management System, whose objective is to increase
its clients’ satisfaction, establish ongoing improvement pro-
cesses and promote environmental conservation. It is a tool
that provides a continuous improvement context focusing on
processes, provides cost reduction, avoids job reduction and
helps to mitigate adverse environmental impact.

In 1999 the Port of Altamira received the ISO 14001:1996

certificate, so it was the first Latin American Integral Port Ad-
ministration to receive it, having a commitment with the envi-
ronment, managing its environmental aspects and impacts in
its competitive context and establishing a policy, objectives
and environmental programs.
