There is / there are.
El there is/ there are en español significa HAY,
There is, se usa para hablar sobre la existencia de sólo una cosa en singular
ex: there is a teacher in the classroom . En este ejemplo el articulo a (un/una) es el que nos
da la idea del sustantivo en singular, ademas del sustativo en sí teacher que no lleva s, por lo
tanto es sólo un/una profesor (a).
There are, se usa para hablar sobre la existencia de dos o varias cosas en plural.
Ex: There are many students in the classroom. En este ejemplo podemos ver el many (varios)
como el cuantificador y nos da la idea del prular, además vemos el sustativo students con la s
que lo pluraliza convirtiendolo en estudiantes.

COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS.
COUNTABLE NOUNS: Los sustantivos contables son muy fácil de reconocer, son cosas que
podemos contar. Ex:
dog, cat, animal, man, person cup, plate, fork
bottle, box, litre table, chair, suitcase, bag
coin, note, dollar
Los sustantivos contables pueden estar tanto en singular como en plural.
My dog is playing.
My dogs are hungry.
Se puede usar los artículos indefinidos (a / an) con los sustantivos contables
(countable nouns). Cuando un sustantivo contable está en singular (sólo 1) se deben
usar artículos como: a/the/my/this. Ex:
I want an orange. (not I want orange.)
Where is my bottle? (not Where is bottle?)
Cuando un sustantivo contable es plural, se puede usar solo sin artículo. Ex:
I like oranges.
Bottles can break.
Plural nouns rules (reglas para los sustantivos en plural).
Se debe tener en cuenta si el sustantivo es regular o irregular.
Regular plural nouns.
1. We add –S to a noun to form the
plural. But most have s.

2. After – S, -SH, -CH and –X We add –
es /IZ/ 4. When a noun ends in a consonant +

3. A few nouns ending in –o have –es. We do not change –y after a vowel.

"People" is countable. "People" is the plural of
"person". We can count people:
There is one person here.
There are three people here.

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS:Los sustantivos
incontables son sustancias, conceptos, etc. No se
pueden dividir en elementos separados, por lo
tanto no le pueden contar. Por ejemplo, no se
puede contar Milk (leche), se pueden contar
botellas de leche, cajas de leche litros de leche,
pero no se puede contar la leche como tal. Ex:
music, art, furniture,
love, luggage
happiness rice, sugar,
advice, butter, water
information, electricity, gas,
news power
money,
currency
Normalmente los sustantivos incontables se usan
en singular.
This news is very important.
Your luggage looks heavy.
No se usan articulos indefinidos con los
sustantivos incontables (a/an), no se puede decir
an information or a music, pero si se puede
decir a “something” of, ex:
a piece of news
a bottle of water
a grain of rice
Se puede usar some o any con sustantivos
incontables. Ex:
I have some money
Do you have any rice?
