WOD
AMRAP (As many rounds/reps as possible): Dado un tiempo fijo, debe hacerse el mayor
nmero de rondas o repeticiones de un ejercicio o serie de ejercicios. Ejemplo. AMRAP 20min:
dispones de 20 minutos para hacer tantas rondas o repeticiones del wod.
Fight Gone Bad: La pelea sali mal. WOD creado para el peleador de Jiu Jitsu BJ Penn, con
el fin de entrenar ciertas condiciones para peleas del Ultimate Fighting Campionship (UFC).
Consiste en un recorrido de 5 estaciones de un minuto cada uno. El tiempo total del recorrido
por las diferentes estaciones es de 5 minutos, al igual que un round del UFC. No se descansa
entre estaciones. El recorrido se hace de 3 a 5 veces. Se descansa un minuto entre cada
ronda. En cada estacin se hace un ejercicio distinto.
WOD (Workout of the day): Ejercicios del da. Es el entrenamiento del da que realizan los
gimnasios CrossFit. Diariamente se publica uno en la pgina oficial de CrossFit. Se prescribe un
rgimen de 3 das de entrenamiento por un da de descanso. Tambin se puede realizar 4 das
de entrenamiento por un da de descanso.
EJERCICIOS
Bastards: Un burpee en el que el salto con palmada es reemplazado por un salto llevando las
rodillas al pecho.
Battle Rope: ejercicio que se realiza con una cuerda de 15 o 20 metros y de un dimetro
superior a los 4cm. La cuerda se hace pasar por un poste o estructura vertical y se agarra cada
extremo de la cuerda con una de las manos.
Clean: Movimiento del levantamiento olmpico que consiste en llevar el peso desde el piso (o
desde los muslos) hasta los hombros. Tambin conocido como cargada o primera fase de
envin. Se puede ejercitar en versiones de Hang Power Clean (clean parado o clean de
potencia) donde se mantiene la barra a la altura de los muslos, o desde el piso, lo que se
denomina Power Clean.
Clean & Jerk: Envin. Movimiento doble o en dos fases del levantamiento olmpico.
Double Under: Salto doble a la comba. Ejercicio con la comba en el que se salta una sola vez
y se pasa la cuerda dos veces por debajo de los pies.
Farmers walk: paseo del granjero. accin de coger dos mancuernas muy pesadas y andar
con ellas a la cintura.
Muscle Clean: Clean de fuerza. Modalidad del clean para mejorar la fuerza. Tambin es
utilizado para entrenar la recepcin.
Muscle Snatch: Arrancada de fuerza. Modalidad del arranque para mejorar la fuerza. Tambin
es utilizado para entrenar la recepcin.
Muscle-Up: Movimiento bsico de la gimnasia con aros. Consiste en posicionarse por encima
de las anillas desde una posicin colgado.
Overhead squats (OHS): Sentadilla por encima de la cabeza. Se hace con la barra encima de
la cabeza. Es un ejercico bsico del levantamiento olmpico y bsico para entender la arrancada
(snatch).
Pistols: ejercicio que consiste en mantener una pierna paralela al suelo y extendida lo mximo
posible, mientras se flexiona la otra pierna y se intenta hacer una sentadilla con una sola pierna.
Samson Stretch: estiramiento Samson. Se realiza entrelazando los dedos de ambas manos y
subiendo los brazos apuntando al techo, a la vez se realiza un walking lunge esttico.
Snatch: Arrancada. Movimiento del levantamiento olmpico que consiste en llevar el peso
desde el piso (o desde los muslos) hasta la posicin por encima de la cabeza
Thruster: Combinacin de una sentadilla frontal con un push press. Combina dos movimientos
muy exigentes: la sentadilla con el acto de levantar pesos por sobre la cabeza. En palabras de
Rob Shaul, los thrusters son agona pura.
Wall Ball Shots: Lanzas una pelota medicinal 3 metros hacia arriba mientras haces squats o
sentadillas. Es uno de los ejercicios ms caractersticos y completos de CrossFit. El peso
estndar para mujer es de 7 kilos y de hombre de 10 kilos, pero como ejercicio de CrossFit se
puede realizar con menos peso o dificultad.
Rxd: Siglas para prescribed o prescrito. Los WODs sealan un peso o modalidad prescrita
para los ejercicios. As Rxd quiere decir que el deportista ha hecho el WOD segn lo indicado.
Tabata This: 5 tabatas separados por un minuto de descanso. Generalmente se hace con
squats (sentadillas), remo, push ups (planchas, lagartijas, flexiones de brazos o flexiones de
pecho), pull ups (dominadas) y sit-ups (flexiones abdominales.)
Tabata something else: 4 tabatas sin el minuto de descanso como en el Tabata This. Se
hace, en ese orden, con pull ups (dominadas), push ups (planchas, flexiones de brazos o
flexiones de pecho), sit-ups (flexiones abdominales) y squats ( sentadillas.)
TCNICOS
Nasty Girls (Chicas sucias): Apelativo con el que se conoce a la primera generacin de
CrossFitters Annie Sakamoto, Nicole Carroll y Eva T, luego de que protagonizaran un video en
el que ejecutaban un WOD, que pas a conocerse tambin como Nasty Girls.
GHD: Glute Ham Developer. Maquina desarrollada principalmente con fines de aumentar la
capacidad mscular en los gluteos e isquiotibiales. Se puede usar tambin actualmente para
trabajar la zona abdominal. Se requiere usar con precaucin.
GO HEAVY: expresin muy utilizada en CrossFit a la hora de entrenar para intentar siempre
coger mayores pesos o los pesos recomendados para lograr los resultados esperados.
Hook Grip: agarre de halterofilia, basado en poner el dedo gordo alrededor de la barra y pisar
con los dos primeros dedos el dedo gordo. Se usa para levantar grandes pesos y es el agarre
ms efectivo para halterofilia.
VARIOS
Increased Work Capacity Across Broad Times and Modal Domains: incrementar la
capacidad de trabajo en diversos dominios de tiempo y modo. CrossFit desarrolla capacidades
para enfrentarse a una diversidad de tareas en la menor cantidad de tiempo.
Pukie: Representa el acto de vomitar por culpa de un ejercicio demasiado intenso. Ms que
una realidad, es una broma que se ha convertido en parte este tipo de entrenamiento en
CrossFit. Tiene un payaso que lo representa.
Firebreathers: Personas que respiran fuego, comefuegos o tragafuegos. Son los CrossFitters
de ms alto rendimiento, como los que participan en los Juegos CrossFit.
Fuerza (power): definido como la "tasa de tiempo para realizar un trabajo". Fuerza es
equivalente a intensidad. Incrementos en la fuerza, rendimiento , masa muscular y densidad de
los huesos son proporcionales a la intensidad del ejercicio.
Globo Gym: Son los gimnasios de toda la vida con sus grandes mquinas que predominan en
el mundo del entrenamiento fsico. Es el ejemplo NO a seguir de un gimnasio funcional o de
CrossFit. Se los suele caracterizar con la imagen de alguien en una trotadora mirando televisin,
o haciendo ejercicios de aislamiento muscular concentrado en su reflejo en el espejo.
Jim Jones: Predicador norteamericano que construy su utopa en la Guyana, en la que reuni
a casi mil ciudadanos de los [Link]. Luego de algunos hechos de violencia, los seguidores se
suicidaron. Lo hicieron tomando cianuro mezclado con la bebida Flavor Aid, comnmente
confundida con su semejante Kool-Aid. Esta triste historia ha sido tomada por CrossFit y otros
sistemas de acondicionamiento funcional para graficar la rudeza de su propuesta y el grado de
compromiso que involucra. El montaista Mark Twight bautiz a su gimnasio con ese nombre,
ex-afiliado a CrossFit.
Soccer mom: En la cultura popular norteamericana, una Soccer Mom es una mam de clase
media que pasa buena parte de su tiempo trayendo y llevando a su(s) hijo(s) del colegio y de
prcticas deportivas como el ftbol. La imagen es la de una mujer de mediana edad que
maneja un mono-volumen. En CrossFit se ha usado alguna vez para sealar a las mujeres que
hacen los ejercicios o WODs adaptndolos a sus capacidades. Ellas se encuentran en el punto
opuesto de los firebreathers.
Sweat angel: Marca de sudor que queda en el piso cuando el CrossFiter, agotado despus de
un WOD, se echa a recuperar el aliento. Proviene del argot de los lugares en los que nieva y los
nios se echan de espaldas a jugar en la nieve. Al mover los brazos, dejan la huella de un
cuerpo con algo que parecen alas (ngel).
The A-Blog: El blog de afiliados. Rene noticias de los gimnasios afiliados a CrossFit y
comentarios y sugerencias para mejorar aspectos de la administracin y el entrenamiento. Es
administrado por Lisbeth Darsh.
Uncle Rhabdo: Personaje que encarna la leyenda negra que se ha creado en torno de
CrossFit, segn la cual este sistema puede producir rabdomilisis, una situacin patolgica en
la que los productos de desecho generados por la intensidad del ejercicio ingresan al torrente
sanguneo y pueden producir daos al rin, incluso la muerte. CrossFit, en una actitud sana,
afirma que s, que CrossFit puede matarte, como tantas otras cosas si no las haces en forma
adecuada.
