GNU R
gretl (pgina principal aqu) est diseado como un paquete economtrico muy
sencillo para el usuario. Aunque tambin es razonablemente sofisticado, le faltan
algunos de los mtodos estadsticos especializados que un analsta economtrico puede
desear.
Como una alternativa ante esta limitacin, gretl ofrece un interfaz que da acceso al
paquete estadstico de software libre GNU R. De acuerdo al resumen que hay en el sitio
web del proyecto R, "R es `GNU S' - Un lenguaje y un entorno para el clculo
estadstico y grficos. R es similar al tantas veces premiado sistema S, que fue
desarrollado en los laboratorios Bell por John Chambers y otros."
Gretl ha tenido desde hace tiempo la posibilidad de guardar el conjunto de datos actual
en un formato adecuado para el anlisis con R; o tambin la opcin ("Iniciar GNU R"
bajo el men 'sesin' de gretl) de lanzar una sesin de R con el conjunto de datos
actual de gretl cargado automticamente en el espacio de trabajo de R. Sin embargo,
desde la versin 1.7.5 de Gretl, su interaccin con R es mucho ms soficticada: ahora
es posible incorporar guiones de R dentro de los guiones de Gretl y que ambos
programas se transfieran los datos y los resultados de una manera relativamente

Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New
Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team.
R is freely available under the GNU General Public License, and precompiled binary versions are provided for various operating systems
like Linux, Windows and Mac.
This programming language was named R, based on the first letter of
first name of the two R authors (Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka),
and partly a play on the name of the Bell Labs Language S.
