What’s the difference between 301 and 302 redirects?

  • 301 (Permanent): Use this when a page has permanently moved. Search engines transfer SEO value to the new URL.
  • 302 (Temporary): Use this for temporary redirects. Search engines don’t transfer SEO value.

For SEO purposes, use 301 redirects in most cases.

Can I redirect to external URLs?
