I mean it, if you haven't seen, go away, it rewards being as unspoiled as possible.

OH MY GOD, THAT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. Possibly better than Iron Man 1. Tough call, 1 is an excellent origin story, 3 is an excellent non-origin story, which seems to be where more of the franchises struggle. Incomparably better than X3 or Spiderman 3, for example.

Also, totally not what I was expecting with the Extremis storyline. Kept waiting for Tony to use it on himself (either due to life-threatening injuries or cause of how traumatised he was by New York), it threw me when it didn't happen. Am sad that Pepper will not be staying superpowered. Their relationship was much more Avengers-style good rather than IM2 trainwreck, fortunately :)

Speaking of New York, I loved that this was a direct followon from Avengers, I wasn't sure if they'd reference it as much as they did.

I liked Don Cheadle much more than in IM2.

When they were about to film the Mandarin's next video, I did start to wonder if he was just someone playing role for Guy Pearce (who was a decent villain, though one with strangely non-specific goals), then I didn't think so as much, but the actual reveal about the actor was hilarious. All the awards for Ben Kingsley.

When Harley the cute small child started helping Tony out, I was like \"really? cause that's what this film was missing?\" but it was hilarious how it played with expectations, and how Tony called the kid out for trying to guilt trip him etc. \"Are you going to leave me like my dad did?\" \"Yup\"

Yinsin being in the 1999 flashback was a goddamn gift. I physically flailed.

SHERIFF STILNSKI!! Linden Ashby has a very brief (blink and you'll miss him) appearance, in uniform :) It was particularly funny cause we had trailer for The Internship or whatever its called, with Dylan O'Brien (and not even for him will I see that shit).

Moment in film that got to me the most, and inspired actual hand-over-mouth reaction: the shot of Dummy(?) sinking in the water. Thank god we saw it on Tony's trailer at end of film. I was pretty worried about Happy, but once he survived actual blast I knew he'd wake up. The Downton Abbey gag was great.

Actually, whole movie was damn funny. Tony's flinch when the botanist ex-gf played along with the unknown kid gag was brilliant.

If the suits were a cocoon, is Tony now a beautiful butterfly or a moth?

In terms of making a clean sweep and destroying suits, I saw that more as clearing out his obsessive PTSD-inspired projects. I mean, he's still Iron Man, right? I did think that fixing his heart came a bit out of nowhere. <\/a>arysteia<\/b><\/a>this<\/a> and wait with me for more :D

6. FUCK YOU DEATON! I was chortling along when he was laying the smackdown on Derek (thank god the show acknowledges that Derek has been a crappy Alpha), until it turned out that he's a Hale family ally.

What the fuck, dude?

Where the hell have you been while Derek has been falling and failing and being tortured and betrayed and generally being kicked around by the universe since his sister (and Alpha) died at the hands of his uncle?

Perhaps the situation wouldn't be quite so bad if you'd spoken up sooner?

(Not that this absolves Derek for the responsibility for his sometimes dubious life choices, but c'mon).

Also, he totally implied that Peter coming back from the dead is Gerard's plan going how he wants it to, which if that is the case, mind = blown.

(Also also, I totally thought the one person who Derek should trust was gonna be Stiles. I REGRET NOTHING)

7. I'm beginning to think that the message of the show is Secrets Are Bad, am I onto something?

Sorry, in advance.\" and yet they didn't have a gif of Derek's face when overhearing that Scott only joined the pack on Gerard's orders. How did they skip that?

Also, at what point did Stiles exchange contact details with the drag queens at the gay club?

Well, if Peter weren't dead, I'd have to say good on him for being the first person to give Lydia some answers? Perhaps the others could have been more concerned with that and less with ensuring her party was a success.

Thank you Derek for expositioning during the episode that Alphas can fall to Beta, and even Omega - here's hoping you don't become a full example. Shallow thought - I always liked it better when his eyes would flash bright blue in season 1, rather than the Alpha red. Not sure why it was such a struggle for him to control the betas - he growled Isaac into submission on his first full moon, and in several episodes has swatted them and Scott away like flies. Let alone how easily Lydia got to him (and how the hell did she drag his werewolf ass from the underground lair to the Hale house?)

Derek's been rather a shocker as Alpha, so if it weren't Peter taking it from him, I might think it was a good move. Oooh, I wonder if Peter still wants to bite Stiles?

While I'm nitpicking, I still enjoyed this episode, and can't wait for next week. With Peter back, it's kind of amazing that there's still 3 episodes to go...

So, the beginning of June, all I knew about Teen Wolf (the tv show, I'd seen the 80s movies of course) was that it wasn't very good but the guys were frequently shirtless (this knowledge mostly came from passing references on After Elton, I believe). Since I've never had a particular interest in werewolves, I had no reason to seek it out. Nothing particularly against them, but I rarely even read werewolf AUs in fandoms I like.

But then, <\/a>meelie<\/b><\/a><\/span> pimped season 1 at Sinpozium (impression afterwards: still didn't look great, but the shirtless guys were frequently homoerotic with each other, and there were some potentially interesting things about the show). And I was like \"hmmm, I dunno, I have many high or medium quality tv shows I should get around to finishing (or starting).\" I poked at some fic that she and <\/a>alasen<\/b><\/a><\/span> recommended, and then they somehow managed to make me come down sick soon after Sinpozium, and when I was off-work, I somehow decided it was a good idea to download and watch the entire of season 1 and the first two episodes of season 2 in one day (all that had aired thus far). 14 episodes of Teen Wolf in one day. I blame mind control, or possibly drugs. I did make use of the ffwd button for especially tedious Scott\/Allison moments.

And my thoughts were becoming more specific: \"this show has HUGE pacing problems\", \"some of this CGI makes Smallville look good\", \"oh my god, Scott is so boring and\/or annoying, no wonder no one talks about him\", \"wow, Derek's life sucks SO MUCH\", \"why does Allison put up with Scott anyway?\", \"how is Lydia so fucking flawless?\", \"why isn't Danny in this show more?\", \"Martouf!\", and most importantly, \"STILES I LOVE YOU! WHY ARE YOU NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER!!1!\"

But despite the fact that many of those are complaints, the season had ended strongly, and there was stuff I was intrigued by, and not just so I could keep up with show references in fanfic. Plus, I'd fallen for some of the characters (most especially Stiles (and his dad), Derek and Lydia). And the guys really are shirtless more often than not (except, tragically, Stiles).

The show is also very easy to just keep watching, despite the flaws, because it's basically all one on-going storyline. Episodes often pick up right where the last one left off (or cliffhangered), and the entire show has actually only taken place over a couple of months (when full moons are a plot point, its noticeable).

So I've kept watching, and 2x09 airs tomorrow. And now I'm fairly hooked on this show, in that I care about the characters and am genuinely interested in the plot. I'm...still not sure how that happened - I was just here for the porn!. But season 2 is just so much better than season 1, in terms of making the main character and his relationship sympathetic, in terms of plot and pacing, they've expanded the cast (it's still pretty damn white, but improvements are improvements), and I think their budget is bigger. I can't think of another show that I've seen improve so much, addresssing many of the major legit criticisms of itself. It's still not Buffy, but damn, it'd really like to be some of the time. Plus, there's canonical undercover-in-a-gay-bar.

And at this point, I'm just sitting back and enjoying the crazy ride that is the show's interaction with fandom. Because they not only acknowledge the major slash pairing, Derek\/Stiles (it gets asked about it a lot by fans), they are now using videos of the actors cuddling to bribe fandom into voting for the show at the Teen Choice Awards<\/a> - and it worked! And the out showrunner claims he is considering it within the show. I don't care, they can keep messing with us, so far, it doesn't make me uncomfortable the way show\/fan interaction often does.

This is Scott. He's the best friend of Stiles, oh, and I guess he's the major (titular) character of the show. He used to be extremely boring and annoying a lot of the time, with three main pasttimes - whining about having been bitten and becoming a werewolf, lacrosse, and Allison. Lately, he's still obsessed with Allison, but is way less annoying about it and is way more tolerable in general. Still dumb as a post most of the time. How he is his mother's child (she's kickass) is anyone's guess.



Oh yes, lacrosse is the sport of choice in Beacon Hills (it's like field hockey, but the sticks have nets on the end). You will see a lot of it, watching Teen Wolf. It doesn't get much more interesting in the show over time, except when people nearly kill each other on the pitch. Or sniff their teammates. My headcanon on why everyone is so obsessed with it is that a) there's not a lot to do in Beacon Hills (though there is a large gay nightclub...) and\/or they decided to focus on being good at a sport that wasn't as competitive as football or basketball.

Stiles Stilinski (actual first name unknown as it is apparently unpronounceable) and Scott are BFF4EVA, which I think is the major reason Scott is still alive, as Stiles is the brains of the operation. He's also funny, inventive, brave, awesome, has a great relationship with his dad (and sadness due to dead mother), pines for Lydia, worries that he isn't attractive to gay guys, and is generally the best thing since the last great sidekick to totally steal a show from the main character. He's like Willow and Xander had a baby, who takes after Seth from The OC.




This is Allison. She spends far too much mooning over Scott (inexplicably), but is pretty awesome when given the chance. Her dad, a fairly important character, is Martouf from Stargate and her mother is SCARY (and grandpa in season 2 is from BSG).




Derek is terminally sad. Often in tightfitting henleys, tank tops or just shirtless (sometimes while doing pushups). He is a werewolf with a tragic backstory, that just keeps getting more tragic as the story unfolds. He spends a lot of time inappropriately hanging around the high school, or breaking into underage guys' bedrooms. He's made some dodgy life choices in season 2, but I keep forgiving him, and the show is way less interesting in Derek-lite episodes.




He and Stiles are boyfriends and\/or destined mates, according to fandom. And fandom is right. 70% of TW fic on AO3 is Derek\/Stiles (sadly known as Sterek *shudder*). Their actual interaction on the show is actually more antagonistic than you might assume if you just went by fandom, but they really do have interesting chemistry. And by that, I mean Derek shouldn't just push Stiles up against walls, he should fuck him against one.



Lydia is a goddess. Starts off seeming like stereotypical kinda-mean and vapid girl, but is actually smarter than everybody and deserves to be treated way better than she is.



Jackson is a big bag of dicks, whom I alternate between wanting to smack, and feeling sorry for him while still wantiing to smack him. Dating Lydia at start of show. Rich, captain of lacrosse team, kinda a big deal at school. Frequently shirtless.



This is Danny, who is Jackson's best (and probably only) friend. Danny is gay (canonically). In Teen Wolf universe, the showrunner chooses to believe that there's not such thing as homophobia. Sadly, this doesn't mean Danny is central to the plot most of the time, but he is a generally awesome human being who somehow puts up with Jackson. Possibly, he's a saint. There's been a bit more of him in season 2. Also shirtless at times. Seriously, Stiles is the only boy in town who wears clothes on a regular basis.



This is Scott's boss, Dr Deaton the vet. Is awesome. Should probably have own spinoff.



There are other characters, but many of them are spoilery. You might have noticed a lack of photos of werewolves. The makeup isn't very attractive, that's why.<\/a>

Not-so-new-anymore job is proceeding well, though we'll have to see once they double my responsibilites.

The weekend before last was Sinpozium<\/a>, the annual (well, that's been 2 years in a row since the hiatus, so I guess its safe to call it that) Sydney slash gathering, which I help organise with <\/a>alasen<\/b><\/a><\/span>, and I think it went pretty well. It's a small party of about twenty slashers this time (including a number of Kiwi visitors from across the ditch), hanging out, pimping fandoms and pairings, watching vids, reccing books and tech gadgets (and learning how to use the Tumblr thingy, for those of us a-scared of it) and eating and drinking. I had fun, and things went fairly smoothly (apart from scary adventures in the Carpark From Hell - no seriously, it looks like the setting for tortureporn movies).

Thank you so much to everyone who did pimps and talks and prepared games and participated and made it so great (aka EVERYONE). Thanks to everyone who helped me prepare my last-minute crowdsourced McKay\/Sheppard nostalgia presentation. Clips from all 5 seasons, ran for about 15 minutes, and I nearly pimped myself back into rewatching the show making it :) I also did a little pimp on the Don Strachey movies + Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with RDJ and Val Kilmer (if you've never seen it, WHY NOT?)

And I was so let down by the ending, cause BioFather eventually just gave in to RealDad, and I wanted to see him be humiliated in court.

And then I woke up before 6am. It's a weekend, gimme a break, body.

Last weekend was very rugby-heavy. Went out to a Super Rugby (big international comp between state\/provincial teams) game on Friday night, and my team lost in a close game :( Then had a lovely Saturday afternoon out at a Sydney club game (crowd in the hundreds rather than 18,000 the night before) where my team won! And then Sunday night we watched an awesome Super Rugby game on tv where the Aussie team I was going for unexpectedly won. So much footy in 3 days.

At the club game, they had to repeat their page to a Robert Frost, asking him to come to the announcers booth. I told my dad \"maybe he's taking the road less traveled by, and it's longer\" and made my father groan, which is always a victory.

Saturday evening I damaged my car through stupidity, blargh. But turns out I won't lose my no-claim bonus insurance discount, I've just got to pay the excess, so kinda yay?

New job continues ok, though I'm not really looking forward to the office move we're making at the end of June.

My sister and I have been swimming 5 times in last 2 weeks, and we increased our distance swum (by a little) each time.

I need to pick up Adam Lambert's new album, I've only heard the singles. And I'm seeing NKOTBSB next weeked! Though I don't know if I know more than 1 NKOTB song, so that'll be interesting. Better pick up tix this week. I think this will be my 8th time seeing the Boys?

I've done a couple of loads of laundry, cleared out the fridge, watched the season finale of Criminal Minds (best it's been this season, and maybe last season too). And now I'm procrastinating about trying to make something for Sinpozium (only 2 weeks people!).
