Haven't really read any reviews/discussions yet, so this might be totally repetitive to what everyone is saying. And my thoughts are very scattered, if I try to make them coherent I'll never get around to posting.

I'm not really sure how I feel? I went in very unspoiled, and I'm mostly glad about that. I think?

It was entertaining. Much better than the prequels (setting a low bar, with apologies to the one prequels fan I know *g*).

But I'm jealous of people who loved it, because I didn't really. The first half was better than the second, when it became inescapable that they weren't just mirroring/paying homage, they were basically remaking the plot of A New Hope (well, and Return of the Jedi, but there was a lot of overlap there anyway). The secret message on the droid found in the desert was one thing, but did it have to be a bigger, badder Death Star attacked by X-Wings and a ground force? After visiting a cantina? And all the other plot beats they hit?

I don't understand why it is Resistance (allied with the Republic) v the First Order, and not the Republic v the First Order? And was that Coruscant that got exploded?

Wait, Lupita Nyong'o was playing Maz? I liked the character but that seems a bit of a waste of casting her. Speaking of female characters, why would Han and Finn leave Captain Phasma alive (by chucking her down a garbage chute) when they have no qualms about killing any other First Order soldiers? Seems like a cheap way of keeping her around til we can actually see Gwendolen Christie at some point.

And did they cast someone unattractive who looks nothing like Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to throw people off about him being their son? Early on I was wondering if Kylo Ren was going to be Luke (and map to find him was actually going to be something about rescuing him from Darkside) but decided that was too obvious. ETA: remembered another funny moment - the two storm troopers backing away and going the other direction to get away from his tempter tantrum.

Anyway, being very negative but I didn't hate it. I like Rey and Finn. I could believe their interactions and motivations (yep, more shade being thrown at prequels). I liked how she kept rescuing herself, and when I was going to be mad about her being knocked out of fight with Kylo Ren, it was her fight that was the big one.

I like Poe Dameron (pity his last name wasn't Antilles). I liked cameos from old friends like Nien Nunb (or someone of same species) and Admiral Ackbar! (Meanwhile, the Greg Grunberg cameo had me rolling my eyes.) I am vaguely intrigued to find out more about Kylo Ren's turn to darkside (seemed like they were worried about him even before Luke started training him?)

But really, my negative reactions are really about the big three - Luke, Leia and Han. I was worried that Han and Leia were gonna be separated, though at least the loss of their son was a decent reason for that. But Luke being like every other Jedi and becoming a hermit and letting the galaxy burn after fucking up? And abandoning his sister? Not happy, I hope the next movies come up with a better reason than he was moping.

And I just knew that Han would die once he confronted his son, and my biggest indictment about my reaction to this movie - I didn't cry. Though thinking about how there won't be anymore Han/Leia scenes, and we'll never see Luke and Han interact? I'm pretty fucking bummed.

(Sorry, it has to be said - Leia only lost her ex. Chewbacca lost his life-partner.)

Argh, I dunno, when I look at what I've written, it sounds way more negative than I thought I felt. I'm planning on seeing the other movies (disgusted to hear that Ep 8 is 18 months away? Fuck off Abrams, Peter Jackson wrote the rules for trilogy movies now, stick to it), but I'm not sure I'll rush to see this one again at cinema.

Now, is there any Finn/Poe fic? What? I'm asking for a friend...I'm seriously thinking of pulling out the first Timothy Zahn trilogy though.
urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:erilyn:726318
@attributes":
{"@attributes":
yo, here be massive spoilers for the mid-season finale of Teen Wolf that leaked.

well, that was an appropriate way to end this season/half-season/whatever. that is, it had some good moments, but overall, was a load of steaming crap.

Let's see - the female villains have to die (Kali (though seriously, we've seen werewolves recover from worse, so who knows) and Jennifer) while the male villains (Deucalion and the Wonder Twins) get to survive, and some are even embraced into the fold. FUCK YOU JEFF DAVIS. Oh, that's right, even fucking Grandpa Argent is still alive. And Peter.

I was only glad to see the twins survive in that they died really easily for supercharged alphas. Though more importantly, did the Jeep survive??? Wow, Stiles got fuckall to do in this episode, apart from show up with a bat. That opening where it established all 3 of them being near the tree stump in the pilot was done ok, but also kind of a waste of time.

Oh joy, Lydia's best apparently is her screaming. What a thing to reduce her to narratively. and fuck Jeff Davis again - in last week's ep, the actors had to remind him of Lydia and Peter's traumatic history to get even any sort of reaction to them meeting, and the show fucking put comedy music underneath it. RAGE.

I did like Alison taking charge of Argent family business and giving them a new Code to follow - we might finally see the matriarchal family we were promised but not really shown. Alison's stuff this season has been among the least rage-inducing, actually. Along with Stiles and Lydia being mystery solving bros.

Is every season going to end with Scott having a secret plan (to fight inflation)? Cause that's some lazy ass storytelling.

How did Scott being an alpha enable him to break the circle/become an Alpha by breaking the circle? even by Teen Wolf standards, THIS MAKES NO SENSE.

I was glad to see Derek get his pretty blue eyes back. But now he and Cora are two Alpha-less betas (does that make them omegas) off wandering. Better than Scott being his Alpha though. Where the fuck was Scott-the-great-and-powerful-and-good-and-special when Derek was fighting with Jennifer and losing? I really don't like the whole Scott is super special and destined to become a magic Alpha plot, if you can't tell. The fact that he's never been called out narratively for his sketchy/dubious behaviour and choices (while everything is Derek's fault and he is nothing but punished) pisses me off.

And still one of the things I'm maddest about - WHY WAS CORA WRITTEN INTO THIS SEASON? HOW DID HER PRESENCE CHANGE ANYTHING OR DEVELOP ANY STORYLINES OR PROMPT CHARACTER GROWTH? Jeff skipped showing us any interesting/emotional reunion scenes between the siblings, and never answered onscreen how she survived the fire or where the fuck shes been. I spent the entire season waiting for there to be a point, maybe for her to be a secret ally to Alpha pack or something, and nothing.

God, I hope Tyler Hoechlin could get a job on Arrow and not come back to this show. Especially since I don't know if I'm interested in hatewatching season 3B, which is what I'm pretty much reduced to with this show.

At this point, I kind of want Peter Hale to kill many people, before being taken down by Lydia (without screaming). I mean, that's what I've wanted all this season, but now I want him to kill of some other bad guys first.
urn:lj:livejournal.com:atom1:erilyn:725734
@attributes":
{"@attributes":
These are possibly incoherent thoughts, with all the spoilers in the world. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE. I'M SERIOUS. Trust me, ok?

I mean it, if you haven't seen, go away, it rewards being as unspoiled as possible.

OH MY GOD, THAT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. Possibly better than Iron Man 1. Tough call, 1 is an excellent origin story, 3 is an excellent non-origin story, which seems to be where more of the franchises struggle. Incomparably better than X3 or Spiderman 3, for example.

Also, totally not what I was expecting with the Extremis storyline. Kept waiting for Tony to use it on himself (either due to life-threatening injuries or cause of how traumatised he was by New York), it threw me when it didn't happen. Am sad that Pepper will not be staying superpowered. Their relationship was much more Avengers-style good rather than IM2 trainwreck, fortunately :)

Speaking of New York, I loved that this was a direct followon from Avengers, I wasn't sure if they'd reference it as much as they did.

I liked Don Cheadle much more than in IM2.

When they were about to film the Mandarin's next video, I did start to wonder if he was just someone playing role for Guy Pearce (who was a decent villain, though one with strangely non-specific goals), then I didn't think so as much, but the actual reveal about the actor was hilarious. All the awards for Ben Kingsley.

When Harley the cute small child started helping Tony out, I was like "really? cause that's what this film was missing?" but it was hilarious how it played with expectations, and how Tony called the kid out for trying to guilt trip him etc. "Are you going to leave me like my dad did?" "Yup"

Yinsin being in the 1999 flashback was a goddamn gift. I physically flailed.

SHERIFF STILNSKI!! Linden Ashby has a very brief (blink and you'll miss him) appearance, in uniform :) It was particularly funny cause we had trailer for The Internship or whatever its called, with Dylan O'Brien (and not even for him will I see that shit).

Moment in film that got to me the most, and inspired actual hand-over-mouth reaction: the shot of Dummy(?) sinking in the water. Thank god we saw it on Tony's trailer at end of film. I was pretty worried about Happy, but once he survived actual blast I knew he'd wake up. The Downton Abbey gag was great.

Actually, whole movie was damn funny. Tony's flinch when the botanist ex-gf played along with the unknown kid gag was brilliant.

If the suits were a cocoon, is Tony now a beautiful butterfly or a moth?

In terms of making a clean sweep and destroying suits, I saw that more as clearing out his obsessive PTSD-inspired projects. I mean, he's still Iron Man, right? Since I've never had a particular interest in werewolves, I had no reason to seek it out. Nothing particularly against them, but I rarely even read werewolf AUs in fandoms I like.

But then, meelie pimped season 1 at Sinpozium (impression afterwards: still didn't look great, but the shirtless guys were frequently homoerotic with each other, and there were some potentially interesting things about the show). I blame mind control, or possibly drugs. I did make use of the ffwd button for especially tedious Scott/Allison moments.

And my thoughts were becoming more specific: "this show has HUGE pacing problems", "some of this CGI makes Smallville look good", "oh my god, Scott is so boring and/or annoying, no wonder no one talks about him", "wow, Derek's life sucks SO MUCH", "why does Allison put up with Scott anyway?", "how is Lydia so fucking flawless?", "why isn't Danny in this show more?", "Martouf!", and most importantly, "STILES I LOVE YOU! WHY ARE YOU NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER!!1!"

But despite the fact that many of those are complaints, the season had ended strongly, and there was stuff I was intrigued by, and not just so I could keep up with show references in fanfic. Plus, I'd fallen for some of the characters (most especially Stiles (and his dad), Derek and Lydia). And the guys really are shirtless more often than not (except, tragically, Stiles).

The show is also very easy to just keep watching, despite the flaws, because it's basically all one on-going storyline. Episodes often pick up right where the last one left off (or cliffhangered), and the entire show has actually only taken place over a couple of months (when full moons are a plot point, its noticeable).

So I've kept watching, and 2x09 airs tomorrow. And now I'm fairly hooked on this show, in that I care about the characters and am genuinely interested in the plot. I'm...still not sure how that happened - I was just here for the porn!. But season 2 is just so much better than season 1, in terms of making the main character and his relationship sympathetic, in terms of plot and pacing, they've expanded the cast (it's still pretty damn white, but improvements are improvements), and I think their budget is bigger. I can't think of another show that I've seen improve so much, addresssing many of the major legit criticisms of itself. It's still not Buffy, but damn, it'd really like to be some of the time. Plus, there's canonical undercover-in-a-gay-bar.

And at this point, I'm just sitting back and enjoying the crazy ride that is the show's interaction with fandom. Because they not only acknowledge the major slash pairing, Derek/Stiles (it gets asked about it a lot by fans), they are now using videos of the actors cuddling to bribe fandom into voting for the show at the Teen Choice Awards - and it worked! And the out showrunner claims he is considering it within the show. I don't care, they can keep messing with us, so far, it doesn't make me uncomfortable the way show/fan interaction often does.

This is Scott. He's the best friend of Stiles, oh, and I guess he's the major (titular) character of the show. He used to be extremely boring and annoying a lot of the time, with three main pasttimes - whining about having been bitten and becoming a werewolf, lacrosse, and Allison. Lately, he's still obsessed with Allison, but is way less annoying about it and is way more tolerable in general. Still dumb as a post most of the time. How he is his mother's child (she's kickass) is anyone's guess.

Oh yes, lacrosse is the sport of choice in Beacon Hills (it's like field hockey, but the sticks have nets on the end). You will see a lot of it, watching Teen Wolf. It doesn't get much more interesting in the show over time, except when people nearly kill each other on the pitch. Or sniff their teammates. My headcanon on why everyone is so obsessed with it is that a) there's not a lot to do in Beacon Hills (though there is a large gay nightclub...) and/or they decided to focus on being good at a sport that wasn't as competitive as football or basketball.

Stiles Stilinski (actual first name unknown as it is apparently unpronounceable) and Scott are BFF4EVA, which I think is the major reason Scott is still alive, as Stiles is the brains of the operation. He's also funny, inventive, brave, awesome, has a great relationship with his dad (and sadness due to dead mother), pines for Lydia, worries that he isn't attractive to gay guys, and is generally the best thing since the last great sidekick to totally steal a show from the main character. He's like Willow and Xander had a baby, who takes after Seth from The OC.

This is Allison. Saturday was a glorious winter's day though, sunny and mild. Family birthday lunch at a beach restaurant, where the view looked like this. I ate goat’s milk ricotta ravioli, and then dad and I had roasted suckling pig, with the most divine crackling I've ever had in my life (and I'm normally not a big fan). Afterwards, I vege'd at my parents place in the evening, napping a bit during the NZ/Ireland rugby game (we'd had some excellent Italian wine at lunch), and enjoying watching Australia win over Wales.

Fandom-wise: I've made my declaration that I will not be watching Glee next season, not whole episodes unspoiled. I just can't take being so angry and/or disappointed so often, and friends don't deserve to hear my constant ranting. I adore the cast (I would watch a show about them in a heartbeat) and still have love for some of the characters (and Kurt/Blaine), but no, I just can't do it. So I will wait for fandom to watch the episodes for me, and then check out performances/scenes (if any) that are deemed worthwhile (cause I'd be lying if I said I was leaving the whole fandom cold-turkey at this time). And if I start to feel tempted to actually watch it, simply reading an interview with Ryan Murphy will quickly put me right again.

I've seen Avengers twice, and love it. I'm desperately hoping the rumour about them releasing a director's cut of the film at cinemas in August is true. LET ME GIVE YOU MY MONEY.
