The Memory Lab is D-I-Y<\/h5>\n

The Memory Lab is “do-it-yourself.” Though it is provided for use by patrons at no charge\u2014they must do the digitization themselves. Assistance is available, but patrons must remain in-person with their media while it is being digitized. Plan accordingly as digitization is done in real-time\u2014meaning that if you are transferring a two hour VHS tape to a digital file, it will take two hours to complete the transfer. The Memory Lab is designated for use by people ages 13 and older.
\nChildren ages 6-12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.<\/p>\n

How much time do you need to reserve?<\/h5>\n

Conversion time occurs in \u201creal time,\u201d meaning that two hours of
\nvideo will take two hours to process in addition to the 20-30 minutes the file
\nwill need to save onto a disk or drive. Be prepared to stay during the
\nreservation.<\/p>\n

Users may bring their own media storage or buy a USB drive for $10 or a CD-
\nR(W) for $1 from the library.<\/p>\n

Users will be required to review the Terms of Use and sign a Participant Release Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n

VHS \u2013 VHS-C<\/strong>
\nThis equipment will convert a VHS tape to a DVD or to digital. It will connect to the computer through the USB port. Conversion happens in real time. Be prepared to stay with your materials to monitor the process.<\/p>\n

Audio Cassettes<\/strong>
\nThis equipment will convert audio cassettes to files you can save on USB or CD disks. Conversion happens in real time. Be prepared to stay with your materials to monitor the process.<\/p>\n

Floppy Disks<\/strong>
\nThis floppy disk drive accepts disks with a physical size of 3.5\u201d and a maximum capacity of 1.44MB. This floppy disk drive connects to our computer via USB 2.0. Conversion happens in real time. Be prepared to stay with your materials to monitor the process.<\/p>\n
