He participated in Viña del Mar International Song Festival in 2019, and in several editions of Festivali i Këngës.

Early life and background

[edit]

Durim Morina was born in Los Angeles, California to parents of Albanian descent.[2][3][4][5] He started his musical career after graduating in opera studies at Juilliard School in New York.[6] His early involvement with music, including vocal training, has been mentioned in Albanian media reports.[7][8] He reportedly sings in eight languages which include Albanian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Turkish, Persian and Arabic.[9]

Career

[edit]

Morina began releasing original music in the late 2010s. Albanian media such as Telegrafi and Indeksonline reported on his early singles recorded and produced in the United States.[10][11] He has appeared in interviews or music segments on several broadcasters, including RTV21, Top Channel, Top Albania Radio, and others.[12][13][8]

In 2018, he participated in the 57th Festivali i Këngës, the Albanian music festival, but was eliminated during the semi-final with the song "Nënë".[14] The following year, he represented Albania at the 60th edition of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, becoming one of the first Kosovar artists to be invited to compete in the international event.[15] In 2020, he competed again at Festivali i Këngës, where he performed the song "Nëse vdes".[16] Albanian media reported that his staging and costume drew significant attention and discussion on social media.[17] His response to the public reaction was covered by TvKlan, where he addressed comments about his appearance and performance.[18]
