Every year we're expected to tick off what days we'd prefer to work around the Christmas holidays (with the emphasis on Boxing Day or New Year's Day), and we're always warned it doesn't necessarily mean we'll get those days. Now, maybe this ego talking, but considering I'm one of maybe five people out of twenty five who work the most hours at that place I would have thought that meant I would be granted some small amount of precedence. And yet for some reason I've been given pretty much the exact opposite of every day I said I'd work, culminating in the fact that I would have preferred to work Boxing Day over New Years and I've been given the opposite. And yet everyone else who'll be working over Christmas has been given the days they asked for. I just... I don't get it. It's been suggested that I try to sort this by swapping shifts with someone. But I can guarantee anyone who's been given New Year's off won't swap it even if I myself paid them to, because they'll all have been out the night before getting wasted. Ok, so I wanted to not have to get up New Years and head off to work, but I doubt I'll be going out and there's a good chance family members who I never get to see much will be around those days rather than Christmas itself which is why I wanted it off in the first place.

And I keep being given six day working weeks, and no one else is. I mean how am I supposed to live? Yeah, I'm earning a wage but one day off a week does not a social life make. And it always seems to be my fault for not pointing it out, but what am I supposed to say? I'm on a zero hour contract - you can't really get much lower than that.

Both Star Trek<\/b> (the reboot) and Up<\/b> get me within the first ten minutes, which I think is pretty unusual for a film when its the end that usually is the tearjerker. To that end Gladiator<\/b> always gets me at the end, and quite recently Pacific Rim<\/b> has managed it as well.

The Hunger Games<\/b> (book and film) get me around Rue's death although the book is during, whereas the film is more afterwards when we see the reaction to it in District 11. And Catching Fire<\/b> managed it at multiple points as well.

Tv episode... That's probably going to have to be Doctor Who<\/b>'s The Christmas Invasion<\/b>, if nothing else because it has killer Christmas trees (which is funnier than it sounds, honest). And it was David Tennant's first proper episode as the Doctor. Film is a bit trickier, because tbh I've never been a massive fan of Christmassy films. To that end I'm going to cheat and say either Iron Man 3<\/b> or Die Hard<\/b>, because they're both set at Christmas.

27.What's a TV show you don't particularly like anymore, but still watch for some reason? Why? (If you're smarter than most of us, which show did you want to love, but gave up on?)<\/i>

I don't think I have an answer for the first question, because I pretty much either love a show all the way through whatever its faults (Primeval<\/b> was a good example of this) or I stop watching a few episodes in because I've lost interest already. Once Upon A Time<\/b> was sort of an example of the second, as I watched a few episodes of the first season and gave up. But then for whatever odd reason I caught the second season, and picked it up again from there. Still haven't watched the rest of the first season though...

Oh, BBC's Atlantis<\/b> is kind of a combination of the two for me at the moment, because I want to love it (there's a sad lack of sci-fi\/fantasy on British tv), but it really is making it hard for itself by near constantly coming across as Merlin<\/b>'s poor cousin. Maybe it's just me and missing the latter show, but most of the main characters seem to be expies and its not hard to see the creators produced both shows. I'm just waiting for it to find its own feet really, else I probably will dump it after this season.

28.What fandom and\/or ship do you Just Not Get that everyone else seems to love?<\/i>

A Song of Ice and Fire<\/b>, I think. Sagas usually put me off for starters because I really can't deal with having to play catch up on someone's complicated set up (as good as it may be). But I tried HBO's Game of Thrones<\/b> when it started, and just about managed to stick with it to the end of the first season and I'll be honest, what lets it down for me is the lack of fantasy. There was too much politics and stuff, and the whole thing is obviously set for the slow burn which might be ok for some, but its not for me. My sister pretty much makes sure I'm up to speed on the whole thing anyway, whether I want her to or not.

Honestly? Er, habit, occasional twinges of guilt that I've not used it for a while, the fic my f-list posts (which largely gets put up on AO3 anyway, but it's just easier to come here to find it in the first place). If there's a general trend towards people not using it I wasn't really aware, it's just for me it kinda happened gradually as a sort of not being able to muster any energy to post at all. Lj was biggest in my life when I first created my journal while I was at uni, and it was a distraction for me when I needed to get out of whatever hole I was in writing essays.

22.Tell us about the obscure fandom\/ship you love that you wish there was MOAR fic for. (Or any fic at all.)<\/i>

Rivers of London<\/b>. I don't know why I fell madly in love with this series, because it largely falls under crime fiction (the other part being supernatural), and I suppose and the closest I've ever come to that genre is a few Sherlock Holmes stories. Fic does exist, just not a lot, yes, there should be more. And don't believe the \"grown up Harry Potter\" quotes either.

23.The holidays are coming. Which means good food. Share a recipe for a dish you love to enjoy during the Merry Thanksmas season. (So we can enjoy it too!)<\/i>

Oh God, I don't know. I think the different thing that we have this time of year are just the sheer amount of food that'll get cooked for Christmas dinner, in which I can only assume my mum's intent is that there will<\/b> be leftovers. Oh, but she does make her own chocolate mints for afterwards though. :)

24.What's a special tradition in your family that makes the holiday season special to you?<\/i>

Probably just the fact that it's not Christmas until I make the short walk round to my cousin's house in the morning (and they're always still in their pjs), and then a few days later the other side of my family comes and stays a few days. They live in Southport, near Blackpool (nearly a three hour drive, basically), so we only really get to see them two or three times a year.

So this is probably down to SFX<\/a>, which I generally go on to get sci-fi\/fantasy type news and tv\/film reviews. Empire<\/a>, a film magazine website for general film stuff, and AO3<\/a> for fics, because I think that's where most of it seems to be nowadays.

Message boards - I'm looking at you IMDB, although some of the film magazine websites like Empire's boards aren't immune. I thinking the type of thing where someone voices an opinion and flame wars ensue, just because one person completely rejects the other's opinion and that by extension makes them a bad person. People are entitled to their own views! (Even if I disagree lol) Just sayin'.

20.Who is your favourite sidekick<\/i>

I'm just going to pick Watson for this, because most of what I watch tends to be ensemble pieces and the character is pretty much the only one I can think that fits the sidekick role. I particularly like the modern re-discovery that Watson is not a complete idiot - he's not stupid, but not everyone can stand next to Sherlock and appear clever. Still, he's got his own skills, he's a very good doctor and he's good in a fight. Ah, playing catch up time again.

I don't think I've ever had a favourite doomed ship, thinking about it. Perhaps House\/Cuddy? Because they spent what, six years building towards it and then junked it a season later. And then I found out the writers had no intention of it actually working out anyway, which pretty much made me lose faith in the whole show no matter how great Hugh Laurie is.

Ships that never were, I'd have to go with Malcolm\/Hoshi from Enterprise<\/b>, which was pretty much born of a line in the season three finale and made me go looking for fic to satisfy it.

Canon ships? These tend to follow whatever is recent to be honest. Tony\/Pepper is one, because I think over three\/four movies its been allowed to move forward naturally (as it can) for the characters. It kinda depends how you look at this. Star Trek<\/b>, The Next Generation<\/b> in particular has always been a favourite of mine, not least because I pretty much grew up with it.

3rd March 2005, apparently. When I first started writing fanfic I initially posted on fanfiction.net, and it was someone there who suggested I set up an LJ account.

The name comes from when I was passing through the LotR fandom and was coming up with names in elvish (yeah, I know) and, if I remember rightly, it means 'Star-Maiden' in some roundabout way. In that sense, the only way it has ever sort of changed is that initially I used to use Eldariel (which still means the same thing), but which I had to change to Elenariel because someone else already had it on LJ when I created my account. And you know what? Hmm, ok. New show? I'm not entirely sure to be honest. The new stuff I'm watching consists of Sleepy Hollow, Dracula, Agents of Shield<\/b> and Atlantis.<\/b> Being new I kinda feel they're all still growing into what they could be right now, and while I'm still with them (between 2-7 episodes in between them I think) I don't think any in particular is my favourite right now. Shield<\/b> edges it out mainly for its MCU connections and the fact that its trading on me loving that Coulson is alive. :)

New returning stuff is Arrow, Elementary<\/b> and Revolution<\/b>. Of these, Arrow<\/b> is probably my favourite. Er, because I like the actiony bits? And it gives me the opportunity to geek out whenever they drop (subtle) comic reference. :)

I think most of my childhood passed in a haze of Power Rangers (the original, ofc) and whatever was on the Disney Channel (mostly film spin offs - Hercules, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid etc). My favourite was probably Buzz Lightyear of Star Command<\/b>, of which the only thing it had in common with its source material was the title character. I don't remember too much about it, but they seemed to go to some effort with world building and even got the little green aliens from Pizza Planet in there as well.

Top of the list is probably Pacific Rim<\/b>, a strange one really since all the early stuff I saw to do with it didn't particularly make me want to see it at all. Then I read a Star Trek<\/b> fusion, loved that, started reading pure Pacific Rim<\/b> fandom, and finally saw it. I mean, what's not to love about giant monsters fighting giant mecha? (Also Idris Elba.)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/b> is always a good one for me too, mostly Iron Man<\/b> (who doesn't love Tony Stark?) and Loki<\/s> Thor<\/b>.

And always, always Star Trek<\/b> in any and all its forms (yes, even Enterprise<\/b>), because I've been a lifelong fan pretty much since The Next Generation<\/b> started literally a few months after I was born and my Dad sat me down to watch it with him. ;) I'm aware the reboot films aren't to some fans tastes, but personally I love them - if they bring the universe back into the public attention, maybe sometime in the future we might get a tv series again? Ok. Right now, I'm totally loving Things That Were<\/a> by Lindzzz, a Rise of the Guardians<\/i> fic. It doesn't get updated particularly often, but the chapters are pretty wordy and you do get pretty pictures with it. They do go to a bit of trouble to reconcile movieverse and bookverse Pitch Black, taking their cues past wise from the books and inserting it into the potential post film stories. When I heard about Kozmotis Pitchiner from the books I have to admit I was pretty sold on the character and his potential for being redeemed (not too dissimilar from Marvel Movieverse Loki?), and while I'll admit I'm not sure where this story is going exactly, I'm enjoying it a lot all the same.

The other right now, isn't exactly one but the second in a series. Strange, Far Places<\/a>, a Pacific Rim<\/i> fic and the second in the author's From out of the Ocean<\/i> series, dealing with the aftermath of the film, Newt's Kaiju research and the potential of another future invasion. This is a little hard to narrow down, since I think there's a few that make me want to write whether I do or not.

First, at least, is probably Snow Patrol's The Lightning Strike (What If This Storm Ends?)<\/b>, if nothing else because I think it feels pretty epic and as much as I want to I don't think I can come up with anything to fit it. At least not now.



One of the others for the moment is Imagine Dragon's Radioactive<\/b> which I came to know through an advert for The Avengers<\/b> and has made me associate it with that since, even if, again, I can't actually think of a way to put what I want to paper (so to speak).
