Emily has been a social worker for the past five years in the public sector, focusing on Autism services for individuals aged 6 to 19. During this time, she has developed a strong knowledge of neurodiverse individuals and has become deeply passionate about advocating for those with differing abilities. Her experience includes counselling, parent coaching, group therapy, psychoeducation, and providing advocacy for neurodiverse children. Emily is particularly dedicated to supporting newly diagnosed children and their families by educating them on neurodiversity. She is also committed to helping them navigate services and connect with the appropriate resources and support systems to ensure they receive the care and opportunities they deserve.
Philosophy
As a social worker providing education for neurodiverse individuals and their families, Emily’s philosophy is grounded in the belief that every person, regardless of neurodiversity, has inherent worth, potential, and the right to access meaningful opportunities for services, growth and development. She strives to create an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment where individuals can learn, thrive, and advocate for their needs. By providing personalized education, resources, and guidance, Emily aims to foster a deeper understanding of neurodiversity, promote self-advocacy, and support families in navigating challenges while celebrating each individual’s unique strengths. Her approach is rooted in respect, empathy, and collaboration, recognizing the importance of tailoring interventions to the specific needs, preferences, and cultural contexts of those she serves. Ultimately, Emily seeks to build resilience, enhance life skills, and contribute to a more inclusive society where all individuals, regardless of neurodiversity, can live fulfilling and meaningful lives.
Therapeutic Approaches
Emily employs a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach to her practice, prioritizing the empowerment and dignity of each client. She integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing to help individuals navigate challenges and build coping skills. Emily is also passionate about neurodiversity education and psychoeducation, providing clients with the tools and understanding to foster resilience and mental well-being.
