From Proto-Italic *oitōr (with ūsus for *issus after ūtor), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₃eyt- (“to take along, fetch”). Compare the future tense οἴσω (oísō) of Ancient Greek φέρω (phérō, “carry”).
